Everything To Know About The Star Brisbane’s Opening This August
Drum roll, please…
If, like us, you’ve been holding your breath for the opening of Brisbane’s most exciting development, we’ve officially got a date, and we couldn’t be more pumped.
Queensland’s newest entertainment and leisure hub is taking shape along Brisbane’s river edge, transforming a once underutilized area into a vibrant oasis that perfectly captures our love for the great outdoors.
Mark your calendars for August 29, 2024! This is the day the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf Brisbane will start to open in phases. With its stunning design reflecting Brisbane’s subtropical vibe and celebrating the area’s rich heritage, this development is set to redefine our city.
At the heart of this new precinct is The Star Brisbane, ready to dazzle with a slew of new dining spots, bars, and entertainment options. But it doesn’t stop there—luxury hotels and a cutting-edge Event Centre are also part of the package, all set to elevate Brisbane’s status ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Sky Deck
One of the standout features has to be the Sky Deck. This seemingly suspended platform soars 100 meters above the Brisbane River, offering breathtaking views and becoming Australia’s newest sky-high playground. It will host three unique venues: Aloria, where dry-aged beef and Queensland’s world-class seafood take centre stage; Babblers, offering a relaxed dining experience with handcrafted dishes and bold flavours; and Cicada Blu, an open-air bar brimming with the city’s energy.
Eat
Foodies, there’s plenty in store for you! Celebrity chef Luke Nguyen is bringing his delectable Asian street food to Fat Noodle, and Australia’s Sashimi Florist, Chef Alex Yu, is returning with Sokyo Brisbane. Craving Italian? Check out Cucina Regina. Steak lovers will adore Black Hide Steak & Seafood by Gambaro, while Latin-American flavors shine at Azteca. Don’t miss the show-stopping Sports Bar with its massive 100 sqm LED screens, the dedicated live entertainment venue LiveWire, and the cheeky cocktail bar Cherry.
Stay
Luxury seekers will have their pick of four top-notch hotels, including The Star Grand, featuring 340 luxury rooms, suites, and penthouses. This riverfront hotel will be joined by one of the city’s most iconic heritage hotels, a contemporary 4.5-star Dorsett hotel, and Australia’s only ultra-luxury Rosewood Hotel. Guests can also enjoy exclusive access to three stunning pools on the resort’s Leisure Deck, an open-air oasis with direct access to incredible event spaces.
Play
So you can eat, stay but what about play? The Star’s expansive state-of-the-art Event Centre is anchored by Brisbane’s largest hotel ballroom. This top-tier facility includes a 20-meter-long bar leading to an outdoor terrace with views of the Story Bridge. Whether you’re planning a sit-down gala dinner, a cocktail soirée, a rooftop product launch, or a large-scale exhibition, this destination is designed to cater to events of every size.
Starting from late August and rolling out into September and beyond, a steady stream of new restaurants, bars, public spaces, and destinations will breathe new life into the 12 hectares of river’s edge. The opening coincides with Brisbane’s biggest party, the Brisbane Festival (read all about it here), although some grassed public areas like The Landing and Finger Wharves will open after Riverfire.
So, watch out Brisbane—we’re on our way to global greatness!
