The Unexpected Pilates Colour You’re About To See Everywhere This Season
Pilates takes a richer turn
By Kiri Johnston | 17th September 2026Move over neutrals, there’s a richer shade entering the Pilates studio.
For years, the Pilates aesthetic has played it relatively safe: black, cream, soft pink, chocolate brown and every shade of beige imaginable. But this season, a much richer colour is making its way onto the mat. Deep, wine-toned red has already made its mark across fashion and interiors, and now Australian movement brand MoveActive is bringing the shade into the wellness space with its latest colour collection.
Simply named Cabernet, the new hue appears across the brand’s Pilates mats, equipment, accessories and signature grip socks, making a convincing case for swapping understated neutrals for something a little bolder.
From your wardrobe to your workout
As at-home reformers and dedicated workout spaces become more commonplace, the equipment that lives in them is increasingly being considered alongside furniture, art and interiors. A Pilates mat isn’t necessarily something you roll up and hide in a cupboard anymore, with colours, materials and design becoming part of the appeal.
“Cabernet has emerged as a defining shade across fashion, interiors and Pilates, signalling a move towards richer, more expressive colour,” says MoveActive founder Melissa. “We wanted to bring that same sensibility into movement. Cabernet feels elevated and directional; it’s a shade that reflects where design is heading and how much more considered the movement space has become.”
While the colour is a departure from the pale palettes we’ve come to associate with Pilates, it’s surprisingly easy to work with. MoveActive suggests styling Cabernet tonally or pairing it with Espresso, Almond, Soft Pink and Powder Blue for a more layered palette.
The Cabernet edit
Pretty much the entire Pilates setup is getting the Cabernet treatment. The collection extends across Pilates balls, toning balls, resistance bands, ankle and wrist weights, hand weight bars, core sliders and weighted rings, alongside vegan leather studio, yoga and reformer mats. MoveActive’s signature grip socks are in on it too, with Cabernet appearing across Crew, Ballet and Low Rise silhouettes, plus stripes, polka dots, hearts and Pilates Club designs.
For a full home setup, the Vegan Leather Curved Studio Mat makes the biggest statement, while the Vegan Leather Yoga Mat and Pilates Reformer Mat offer an easy way to bring the colour into your everyday practice. Smaller additions include Core Sliders, Pilates Balls, Resistance Bands and Cabernet Grip Socks, while the Weighted Ring, Ankle/Wrist Weights and Hand Weight Bars round out the collection.
Neutrals aren’t disappearing anytime soon, but if Cabernet’s takeover of fashion and interiors is anything to go by, your Pilates kit might be next.
