Drop Your Hems: Why Bermuda Shorts Are All The Rage Right Now

Length matters

By Bianca Licina | 4th July 2024

In the ever-dynamic fashion world, trends often swing from one extreme to another. One day, micro shorts—those ultra-short hot pants hanging to the hips of trendsetters—are all the rage. The next, hemlines are dropping and grazing the knees of the fashion-forward crowd. Let us introduce you to Bermuda shorts.

A hem length once reserved for and associated with surfer dudes, basketball players, or dads, long baggy shorts have undergone a dag to fab transformation and now the cool kids are all over it.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen a fashion rebrand like this, taking something traditionally daggy and turning it into something that’s hot and happening. From dad sneakers to bubble skirts, footy jerseys, and peplum, we’re in an era of transformations in fashion and it’s a great time to be alive.

While we’ve comfortably settled into the concept of longer shorts through jorts (which have been ubiquitous this summer), their more sophisticated sibling, the Bermuda short, is making waves. These tailored shorts offer an elevated take on the casual jort, seamlessly blending comfort with style – what more could you want?

Versatility is key with Bermuda shorts. We’ve seen them styled every which way by our favourite fashionistas. Paired with heels for a chic, corporate look, sneakers for a casual vibe, or boots for an edgier ensemble – the possibilities are endless. So endless that we’ve graduated them to staple status, which are the pieces that we plan to wear forever and can do no wrong, sitting beside our favourite denim, black minis and slouchy trousers. Although suited to summer attire, Bermuda shorts are perfect for our mild Aussie winters. Just throw on your best boots with a jumper or blazer – voila!

We could go on but we’d rather you give take them for a spin yourself. Check out our top picks of Bermuda shorts to add to your ever-growing bottoms collection.
