This Is Your Sign To Book A Mum’s Weekend Getaway

Mums gone wild!

By Lisa Cameron | 6th August 2024

Ladies – let this be your sign to clear your schedules, designate a captain, book those babysitters (we got you mums), and turn those group chat plans into reality! I’m talking about a girls’ weekend away, and I’ve got the perfect itinerary for you. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly trip to unwind, reconnect, and create stories that will be retold at long lunches for years to come,  then keep reading. Think wellness retreat vibes but with plenty of wine, cheese boards, and snort-inducing laughter.

I recently had a luxurious weekend away with six of my closest friends at the Scenic Rim, and here’s how it went.

Our casa

Our adventure began at La Bonne Vie, a charming cottage with breathtaking mountain views and a secluded setting perfect for a digital detox (although we did sneak in a few TikTok videos). This quaint cottage slept six comfortably, despite having only three bedrooms. We’ve been friends for over 15 years, so sharing a bed wasn’t an issue, but if that’s not for you, consider booking one of the bigger nearby properties.

As we settled in, we were treated to a stunning sunset with a cosy fire from the fire pit, and took in our gorgeous surrounds. We spent our first evening cooking, stargazing, watching old DVDs (the property had hundreds of 90’s movies), and singing along to ‘So Fresh – Best Hits of 2012’ – the property also had an elite CD collection.

Let the activities begin!

The next morning, we took it upon ourselves to ignore the set trail hikes and find our own adventure through the property. We went on a scenic hike through the countryside, getting a little lost (which added to the fun) but discovering hidden gems like llamas, cows, goats, and a picturesque creek along the way.

Hiking on girls trip

Lunch was at Kooroomba Vineyards and Lavender Farm which stole my heart with its divine menu, wine offerings, and vistas. As a foodie, this place is now in my top 10 restaurants – it was that good! Our single friend may have even found her wedding destination… and yes, we did a mock walk down the aisle to ensure everything would be perfect for her. Everything was 10/10, and I highly recommend this venue. After four bottles (or was it five??), we stayed well past closing with the amazing manager keeping it open until we were done.Kooroomba restaurant

As the sun set, we indulged in cheese, more wine, and late-night pizzas in the stone pizza oven –obviously, it had to be tested out!

We left so relaxed (albeit slightly hungover) and busting with funny stories to tell our kids (and some that we wouldn’t tell a soul). There’s something extra special about sharing laughter, memories, and late-night conversations with friends who’ve been by your side since the nightclub days. If you’re craving a luxurious girls’ weekend away, I highly recommend checking out the Scenic Rim or one of Brisbane’s other nearby beauties. This might be just the therapy you need!
