Why Your Next Weekend Away Should Be a Countryside Escape
From city to serenity
Here’s why your next weekend should be a countryside escape. If you’re a city slicker like me, thriving on the urban buzz with a busy social calendar and always on the go, we’re on the same page. But let’s be real, sometimes it all gets a bit much. That’s when the yearning for a peaceful break kicks in—a sweet escape from the rat race. Feeling that vibe, my boyfriend and I decided to pack an overnight bag and head to Mount Mee for the weekend—just a casual hop, skip, and jump from Brisbane. Because, truthfully, sometimes the countryside is the magic remedy. Sound like your kind of getaway? Keep reading.
City to serenity
Just a bit over an hour’s drive from the hustle of Brisbane, we found ourselves on a hilltop haven. Lush forestry, rolling green pastures, and the Glasshouse Mountains doing their thing—it was clear we were in for a treat. Highgrove Farm, our chosen destination, welcomed us with open arms. Nestled atop 46 acres of mountainous beauty, it was the countryside escape I didn’t even know I needed. It was pure magic—greenery as far as the eye could see, a crispness in the air, and the distant hum of city life replaced by the sweet sounds of nature. This was the getaway that hit the reset button for my soul.Cottage retreat
The residential property boasts a modern yet cosy Airbnb cottage, Highgrove Cottage where we instantly felt right at home. Fully equipped with everything we needed, it was perfect. We dropped our bags, changed into comfy clothes and boots, and headed out for some exploring.Animal greeting
Venturing into the paddocks, we greeted the friendly residents of Highgrove Farm, including majestic Highland cows and Icelandic horses. Yes, I got up close and personal, even managed to give these gentle creatures a pat. Excitement level? Through the roof (obvi)!Bathhouse bliss
As the evening rolled in, a misty haze added to the magic. We lit up the fireplace, rustled up some dinner, and nestled on the couch for a movie night. After dinner, we hit the outdoor bathhouse. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, a warm hub full of bubbles and a fireplace awaited. That night, the big comfy bed and peaceful surroundings had me sleeping like a log.Local gems
During our stay, we decided to explore the local spots. A visit to Bronnie’s for a quality coffee with a bonus view was a must! Birches Restaurant offered a relaxed lunch, and we even took a freshwater dip at Rocky Hole. Next time, wine tasting at Ocean View Estate is on the cards, or if we’re feeling adventurous, we’re hitting up D’Aguilar National Park for a hike.Countryside escape
For those contemplating a countryside escape, Highgrove Farm in Mount Mee is THE retreat. Pack your boots, leave the city’s chaos behind, and immerse yourself in a sanctuary where nature’s embrace offers the perfect antidote to a hectic life. Your next adventure awaits amidst lush landscapes and the gentle rhythms of the countryside.Pro tip:
Grab a pair of boots or wellies for property roaming, and leave your fancy kit at home if you plan on hanging out with the animals. Just like the residents, you’re free to roam around the farm and soak up everything it has to offer. I’m already planning my next getaway to soak in those landscapes a little longer.
