Brisbane’s Best Ramen To Warm Your Heart
Ready, set, slurp!
By Laura Dawson | 3rd August 2017Ramen is a dish of comfort. Of steaming hot broth, delicately flavoured, with a tantalisingly umami combination of soft noodles, tender meats, and toppings galore. We have combed Brisbane’s streets in search of Brisbane’s best ramen, and bring you our top four right here, right now.
Hai Hai Ramen
Taking up residence on Paddington’s winding Latrobe Terrace is Hai Hai – look for the neon dinosaur slurping up a noodle and you’ve found it. The menu is simple, which means it’s easy to choose between Pork, Chicken or Veg. You can swap out your noodles for greens if you’re gluten intolerant, and can go as hard as you like on the toppings and extras. If you have room, make sure to give the sweetcorn a taste.
Hakataya Ramen
Sunnybank Plaza is home to a bevvy of fantastic restaurants and kiosks each serving up their own speciality, but when it comes to ramen, Hakataya Ramen are the clear winners. Something akin to a Brisbane icon, Hakataya Ramen is popular with locals and visitors alike. They serve up pork noodle soup with a spicy variation if you like it hot, with the option of extra noodles for the extra peckish. Fair warning, it may be crowded when you go, such is their reputation.

Taros Ramen
Taros are a long-standing ramen Brisbane stalwart, and with good reason. Their dedication to authentic ramen as well as innovative new flavours is unrivalled by anywhere else in Brisbane. They only use the very best produce and take a great deal of pride in their broths and soups. Choose tonkotsu, shio, shoyu or another one of their delicate broth bases, and then load up on toppings. Make sure you check out their Facebook page as they’re often running special events and promotions!
Genkotsu Ramen
A firm favourite in the student-heavy hub of Toowong, Genkotsu have been keeping customers fed with their range of original and premium ramens for a minute now. In addition to traditional ramen, they also offer variations such as black garlic or tsuke men ramen. They also have the option of subbing udon noodles for the standard if you’re partial to the fatter noodle style. A respectable range of toppings means your ramen can be just as unique as you are.

Ramen Champion
Another Sunnybank favourite, this one is conveniently across the road from the madness of bustling Sunnybank Marketplace which makes finding a carpark a whole lot easier. They never fail to dish up a flavoursome bowl of ramen and their signature dish, Champion Ramen, is a pork soup with flame grilled slices of tender pork and vegetables combined in a fragrant, creamy broth. You could also choose prawn, chicken or miso pork soup. Super hungry? Check out their Giant Ramen challenge.
Motto Motto
Next time you’re in Mount Gravatt make sure to make a bee-line for the counter at Motto Motto. This popular Japanese food spot makes a pretty mean tonkotsu ramen with the option of classic, spicy or sesame with minced pork. If you’re super hungry you can upsize your meal with pork gyoza for an extra $6.90.

Miso Hapi
Just a hop and a skip away from West End beer faves Archive, Brisbane Brewing, and Lock’n’Load, Miso Hapi is sure to satisfy all your late night ramen cravings. With a range of meat and vegetarian/vegan options available, Miso Hapi are ticking all the boxes. Choose a tonkotsu, miso, soy or shio ramen, and add extra toppings as you please.
Wagaya
Craving a big ol’ steamy bowl of ramen next time you’re in the Valley? Look no further than the treats and eats at Wagaya. Choose their namesake, Wagaya salt base ramen, or plump for the miso, beef or scallop with miso butter. Place your order on the touch screen and sit back and wait for your food to be delivered to your table. If this is the future of ramen, we’re in.
