The Lowdown On 3 Of Our Favourite Makeup Removers
Trust us, your skin will thank you in the long run!
Picture this. You’ve just got home after a long, hard day of work. You’ve been wearing your makeup for 12 hours by now, so it’s feeling heavy and oily. You drop your bags, head to the bathroom and turn on the shower. You massage your face with a cleanser and rinse your face. After you hop out of the shower, you glance in the mirror to see your reflection. You have panda eyes and… your face is still full of makeup.
We’ve all had those times when our regular cleanser just doesn’t cut it. Sometimes we need to reach for the big guns in order to effectively remove all of the daily makeup, dirt and pollution clung to our faces. To effectively remove every trace of makeup on your face, look to the holy trinity of makeup removal: cleansing oil, cleansing balm and micellar water. Trust us, your skin will thank you in the long run!
If you’ve never used cleansing oils before, they can sound a little bit intimidating. The most common question asked about cleansing oils is, ‘won’t using an oil break me out?’ In short, no. Cleansing oils are in fact one of the most effective ways to keep your complexion blemish-free! As we learnt through primary school science, like attracts like and therefore cleansing oils will pull all of the oil and dirt stuck to our face. Cleansing oils will act just like a magnet.
How to use: Massage onto a dry complexion to break down makeup. Wet hands and massage again to turn the oil in a milky lather. Remove with a washcloth.
If you like the idea of using a cleansing oil but are worried about potential mess, we suggest you look to a cleansing balm. Cleaning balms work in a similar fashion to cleansing oils, but come in a simple, no-fuss solid balm formula.

By now you’ve probably seen plenty of TV advertisements about the miraculous micellar water, but do you know what it is? Well, allow us to give you the lowdown. Micellar water is made up of micelles that float around in soft water, so the product appears to look just like regular water. These micelles are made up of little balls of, our friend, the cleansing oil and work to break down the grime on our face. While using a cleansing oil or balm will give you the best results, micellar water is always great to have on hand after a night out or when you are travelling.
How to use: Apply to cotton pad and sweep over skin until clean.
We love: Bioderma Sensibo H2O Micelle Solution & Mecca Cosmetica Clean Slate Micellar Water.
