Meet Sara Nejad: Museum of Brisbane’s New Artist in Residence
New in town
Museum of Brisbane is thrilled to welcome Sara Nejad as their new Artist in Residence for 2025! Kicking off on January 31, Sara’s yearlong residency promises to be a celebration of Brisbane’s rich multicultural vibe and individuality, with a twist of creative collaboration.
About Sarah Nejad
Sara is a multidisciplinary artist whose work uses Mandalas—those mesmerizing geometric designs—as a way to dive deep into themes of identity and belonging. Drawing from her own experience of living between worlds, Sara’s art weaves together personal and cultural stories, past and present, trauma and healing, all through the lens of these intricate symbols.
But here’s where it gets even more exciting – Sara is inviting YOU to be a part of the magic! Throughout her residency, you’ll have the chance to create your own Mandalas, contributing to a growing series of collaborative artworks. These pieces will be added to the Museum’s display as an evolving installation, showcasing our shared experiences and celebrating our differences.
Be sure to pop by the MoB to see this amazing community project unfold throughout 2025, and mark your calendars for February 9, when Sara herself will be there to chat and meet visitors in person. This residency is also a key highlight of the Brisbane City Council BrisAsia Festival, running from January 31 to February 9—so don’t miss out on all the cultural fun!
