Take Pride! The Wickham Is Getting A $1.5 Million Makeover
A nip and tuck!
It’s out with the old and in with the new for The Wickham! The loud and proud venue is receiving a fabulous $1.5 million makeover, breathing new life into the iconic pub.
As the unofficial home and heart of Brisbane’s LGBTQIA+ community, The Wickham has stood proud and tall for almost 140 years. A buzzing centre of music, dancing, and epic events, The Wickham is best known for its annual street party, Big Gay Day, which has been raising funds for LGBTQIA+ charities for more than two decades.
Led by Newline Design, this makeover will work to modernise the spaces, whilst maintaining and respecting the venue’s heritage. The comprehensive renovation will include transforming the ground floor bar, beer garden, and second floor, creating dedicated zones for socialising, casual dining, group gatherings, events, and a good ol’ groove.
Upon re-opening, a major entertainment program will blow the roof off, with trivia, beloved drag bingo, and guest DJs. A new menu by Executive Chef Dylan Kemp will be delivering woodfired pizzas, fresh bar snacks, and late-nights bites, with plenty of vegan, vego, and gluten free options.
Constantly evolving over the years to suit the ever-changing Fortitude Valley scene, this makeover aims to help The Wickham continue supporting the queer community, by creating a space that provides the best experience upon every visit. RuPaul would be so proud!
The Wickham is set to re-open late 2022.
