A New Documentary About The Matildas Is On Its Way!

Kicking more goals

By Lauren Payne | 5th March 2024

We’re only a few months into the new year but the Matildas are already kicking some major goals! The iconic Australian soccer (or football – does anyone really know?) team are about to star in their second documentary series Trailblazers, set to premiere on Stan.

After breaking TV viewing records, progressing further than any other Australian soccer team has in the World Cup, qualifying for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, getting a statue to commemorate their incredible achievements built outside Suncorp Stadium, and stealing the nation’s hearts, 2023 was clearly a mammoth year for the Matildas.

The team’s first documentary, Matildas: The World At Our Feet, premiered on Disney+ last year and chronicled their journey towards the 2023 Women’s World Cup. However, Trailblazers will take a different approach, with a broader focus on the Tillie’s personal experiences within the world of Australian women’s football.

Created by an all-female production team, the doco will feature interviews with Sam Kerr, Stephanie Catley, Mary Fowler, Elli Carpenter, Katrina Gorry, and Teagan Micah. Chronicling the team’s rise to success and how each player has been influenced by the rich history of women’s football, as well as the Matildas as a team, this is definitely one to put on your watch list for 2024.

Trailblazers currently doesn’t have a release date, so stay tuned for the announcement. In the meantime, why not read our interview with Katrina Gorry from the October 2023 issue of Style Magazines?
