Eat Up! A Foodie’s Guide To Racecourse Road

Come hungry

In the mood for food? Whether you’re meeting a mate for a healthy bite after a riverwalk or indulging your sweet tooth at the end of a weekend, you won’t find a strip of tasty plates as good as those along Racecourse Road.

A wide and leafy street on Brisbane’s north shore connecting Kingsford Smith Drive to Eagle Farm Racecourse, this hub is brimming with places to stop and have a bite at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all the nibbles in between!

Those looking to start the day on the right foot will find their fuel at Dicki’s Ascot. A plant-based cafe located at the top of the road, Dicki’s puts the taste in hearty meals like the green ‘eggs’ (tofu scramble) on Turkish, which comes packed with pesto, zucchini, spinach, and chilli, the Mexican burrito, and their signature Dicki’s classic plant-based beef burger. Those keeping it light will love their range of salads (the greens and grains is a must!) and smoothies packed to the brim with the good stuff. Eating the rainbow comes easy at Dicki’s!

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that breakfast meals can be consumed at all hours of the day, so swing on by to Petrichor & Co for an AM feed whenever you fancy some exotic Columbian flavours. Putting the love into every dish served, you’ll find a menu packed with seasonal produce. Dig into Marranitas (stuffed croquettes with cheese, tomato chipotle sauce, and chilli scrambled eggs) for a meal you’ll never forget! Equally as concerned with offering you nothing but taste, Frigg Cafe is where you’ll find an array of all day breakfasts, power bowls, burgers, quick bites, and a whole lot more, even catering options! Dig into their Bigg Frigg breakfast, a classic BLAT sandwich, or Greek vege burger – whichever you choose you’re sure to rub that tummy! Out to brekky with your pooch in tow? Drop into Kos Cafe where you’ll find food for you and your four-legged friend. From Spanish eggs with cheesy bread to their mouth-watering Belgium waffles, Kos Cafe is a bright, light, and beautiful space for a morning cuppa. If you’re more of a grab-n-go kinda person in the morning, Le Bon Choix bakery is the perfect place to grab a takeaway cuppa and freshly baked pastry. Serving out of their tres chic space, you’ll feel a world away from all your troubles!

But Racecourse Road doesn’t just deliver on quality breakfasts – there are a plethora of aesthetic places to sit and munch on throughout the day. Fuel up after midday at FarmRak – the home of paddock-to-plate eating. FarmRak (meaning “love” in Thai), is passionate about sustainable farming and nourishing the body. As the cooler weather settles in, there’s no better time to warm your soul, and Taro’s Ramen will bring that and more with their menu of traditional Japanese ramen dishes. Owned and operated by Taro Akimoto whose mission is to be the best ramen restaurant in Brisbane, dine in, take out, or order a DIY home pack and get set to transport your tastebuds to Osaka.

For a get together with the gang, there’s no better place than Verandah on Racecourse. Be it an afterwork bite with a colleague, celebration with friends, or family outing, Verandah will cater to all. Combining classic Aussie dishes with spicy Asian flavours, their extensive menu will ensure you love every mouthful. Pro tip: come hungry, and order big! If Asian flavours are your weakness, you’re sure to become a regular at Danthai Kitchen & Bar. Plating up Northern Thai dishes like Tom Yum soup, Choo Chee curry, and authentic seafood dishes, it’s the perfect place to pick up some takeaway for a cosy night in on the couch. Speaking of cosy meals, pasta lovers will find their haven at Trattoria Italiana. Bringing traditional Italian vibes to Racecourse Road, their menu is as wholesome and hearty as it gets with appetisers, pasta and risottos, salads, sides, chicken, veal, and seafood dishes, plus a curated menu for the bambinos all on offer. That’s amore!

When your sweet tooth won’t quit, skip a trip to the grocery store for a block of choc and instead make a turn into Racecourse Road, where dessert is their schtick. From chocolate souffle pancakes to Oreo shaved ice cream and a range of sugar-filled cocktails that’ll make your eyes pop, Krazy Dessert Bar & Cafe is a Willy Wonka dream come true! Just as tasty but a little less purple, Milani House of Gelato has the scoop when it comes to quality dairy ice creams. Offering up limited-edition flavours alongside staples like rum n’ raisin, the only question you have to face is: cup or cone?
