Stressing over the cost of another commute into the city? Haven’t you heard? Bars in the suburbs are the latest trend. You can indulge in great food and drinks in venues that are practically outside your door, so swap those fluffy slides for heels and enjoy a night out that won’t break the bank.

1. Cardigan Bar | Sandgate

Live music four nights a week, monthly stand-up comedy and handcrafted beers – what more could you want? If you live in the area, don’t be a stranger. This is the perfect go-to for a night with your mates.

2. Sasquatch Bar | Chermside

If the name hasn’t already drawn you in, you might fall in love with the amazing live acoustic music that they have playing every weekend. This is a definite must from us!

3. Junk Bar | Ashgrove

As one of the first hole-in-the-wall bars in the suburbs, everything about Junk Bar screams retro, from the old vinyl to the velvet couches. Junk Bar is known for its delicious cocktails, and the Bloody Mary is said to be one of the best in Brisbane.

4. Eatons Hill Hotel | Eatons Hill

There’s something for everyone at the Eatons Hill Hotel. With nine bars under one roof, you can choose the one that works best for you. They also host heaps of events, from live music to comedy so there’s something for everyone.

The Bench is committed to providing the very best beer, wines and spirits in a friendly and relaxed environment. BYO food and enjoy special events including live music and open mic nights.

9. Bacchus Brewing Co. | Capalaba

This award-winning micro-brewery makes some top-notch brews, which you can enjoy at their Capalaba venue. Or, if you’re keen for a night in you can order their beers online and have them delivered right to your front door!

10. The Oxford Tap House | Bulimba

With so many amazing bars and restaurants in Bulimba, it can be hard to stand out. But The Oxford Tap House does a great job with a cosy atmosphere and ridiculously tasty beers on tap. And if you’re in the mood for a mid-week tipple, this place is open until 10pm Tuesday to Thursday!

11. Padre Bar | Woolloongabba

People are raving about Padre Bar’s funky décor and great range. Plus, their Facebook page advertises them as a “private haunted basement bar available for functions, séances, ghostbusting training, etc.” If that doesn’t sound like your kind of bar, then I’m sorry but we can’t be friends.

12. Fitz + Potts | Nundah

We LOVE this place. Not only do they have great food (cheesy jaffles – YUM!), they also sell a killer cider. And they were named Brisbane’s Best Bar in the 2016 Eat Drink Awards so you know you’re in good hands.
