A Stylist’s Autumn Trend Report + Her Top Fashion Picks For The Season

wardrobe refresh incoming

By Natalie McGowan | 28th April 2026

Autumn is here and with it, a whole new reason to shop. We spoke with Westfield Chermside personal stylist Georgia Pudja to get the seasonal trend report.

What are the key fashion trends you are seeing this season?

This season, there’s a real mix of power dressing, nostalgia and boldness happening. One of the biggest things I’m seeing is power tailoring making a comeback. Think strong shoulders, sculpted and collarless blazers, coats (long and short), funnel necks, bombers, Matrix-esque coats, shawl collar – the list goes on and on!

At the same time, there’s a big ’90s influence coming through. We’re still seeing the lacy slip dresses, silver accessories, and that minimalist grunge vibe creeping back into wardrobes. Another really interesting trend is what’s being called “Sciura glam” – it’s inspired by a very polished Italian style. It’s all about looking chic and sophisticated with beautiful textures like silk, sheer fabrics and soft, low-pile fake fur.

Colour-wise, the palette is quite rich and moody. Lots of black, burgundy, chocolate brown, army green, and deep eggplant. And of course, accessories are making a major statement too, with chunky gold jewellery, bold hats, and even berets popping up everywhere. Overall, the vibe this season is what I’d call ‘glam with personality’ – confident tailoring mixed with a little nostalgia and beautiful textures.

Are there any wardrobe staples or versatile pieces you think everyone should invest in right now? Where can shoppers find these pieces in-centre?

This season, a great jacket is the standout piece in your cooler-weather wardrobe. It’s one of those items that can instantly elevate even the simplest outfit. The bomber jacket is one of those rare pieces that balances trend and timelessness. It’s the perfect throw-on layer that instantly makes an outfit feel more considered, whether you’re pairing it with denim and a tee or layering it over a dress. The beauty of the bomber is its versatility: cropped versions feel polished, oversized silhouettes lean more relaxed and street-style inspired, and materials like leather, satin, or suede can completely change the mood of the piece. At Westfield Chermside, shoppers can find great bomber options at stores like Seed Heritage, Dissh, Decjuba, Sheike, All About Eve, and Witchery – it just depends on which fabric you choose!

Styling tip: Look for a bomber in a neutral shade like khaki, chocolate or black — it will work with everything from tailored trousers to relaxed denim and even dresses.

Which retailers in the centre do you think are doing something exciting this season?

Witchery has really stepped into a fresh, more directional space. The brand’s latest collections are focusing on sharp tailoring, elevated essentials and statement pieces that still feel wearable for everyday life. Think beautifully cut blazers, fluid tops, modern monochrome dresses, and relaxed denim – pieces designed to build a refined but versatile wardrobe.

Dissh has built a strong following for its effortless, minimalist aesthetic. The Brisbane-based label is known for clean lines, refined silhouettes, and relaxed pieces that feel both polished and easy to wear – think linen sets, tailored vests, slip skirts, and elevated basics that work across seasons.

What footwear and accessory styles are trending, and where can shoppers find them?

This season is all about footwear and accessories that feel polished but still effortless; pieces that can elevate everyday outfits without feeling overdone. Footwear-wise, we’re seeing a strong return to refined, low-profile styles. Sleek ballet flats, slingback heels, and modern loafers are everywhere right now, offering a polished alternative to chunky sneakers while still being comfortable for everyday wear. Square-toe shapes and low kitten heels are also trending, giving classic silhouettes a fresh, contemporary edge.

The wedge is definitely one of the standout shoe trends for autumn right now. Wedges are making a comeback in a much more refined, modern way. Instead of the heavy styles from the early 2000s, the new wedges are sleeker with sculptural shapes, softer angles and minimal straps, giving them a polished, contemporary feel. Shoppers can find their next pair at stores like Betts, Witchery, Jo Mercer, and Billini.

When it comes to accessories, the focus is on pieces that add personality while still feeling wearable. Structured shoulder bags, minimalist leather belts and bold earrings are key this season, with many collections leaning into clean lines and timeless finishes. Head into Harper and Harli and Sheike for some accessories and Billini for some bag options!

If someone wanted to refresh their wardrobe with just a few key purchases, what would you recommend?

Refreshing your wardrobe doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. Often, just a few well-chosen pieces can instantly make everything you already own feel more current. A great bomber jacket, blazer, or coat would be at the top of my list. It’s one of the most versatile pieces you can own. Thrown over denim and a tee, it looks effortlessly polished, or paired with tailored trousers, it instantly elevates a look.

I’d also suggest updating your denim or trousers. Silhouettes have shifted slightly, so opting for a relaxed straight-leg or wide-leg style can modernise your wardrobe without feeling too trend-driven. Another smart addition is a beautiful knit or elevated basic in a quality fabric. These are the pieces you reach for again and again, and they layer effortlessly with everything else in your wardrobe. Finally, an updated shoe can completely transform an outfit. A sleek ballet flat, refined loafer, or low-profile trainer can give familiar pieces a fresh, contemporary feel.
