Australia is home to some of the world’s most breathtaking marathon routes, drawing runners from across the country – and the globe – to experience the stunning scenery on offer. Whether it’s the iconic beachfront stretch of the Gold Coast Marathon or weaving your way around Sydney Harbour, there’s no shortage of picture-perfect courses to conquer.
Whether you’re stepping up from Run Club this year or you’re a seasoned marathon pro, we’ve rounded up the best marathons in Australia for 2025. And if running a marathon was your goal but you haven’t signed up yet – take this as your sign. The starting line is calling, and you’ve got this!
BRISBANE
Brisbane Marathon – 1 June
- Start in the city on Margaret St and make your way to the finish line at the Botanic Gardens.
- Entries close 28 May unless sold out prior.
Bridge to Brisbane – 14 September
- The 10km route starts at the at base of the Gateway Bridge, while the 5km route starts at Hercules St Park in Hamilton, and both finish at Brisbane Showgrounds.

GOLD COAST
Gold Coast Marathon – 5 & 6 July
- Enjoy Australia’s flattest, fastest, and most scenic course where runner’s will glide alongside the iconic beaches south to the Miami turn point and then head north along to Paradise Point before being championed to the finish chute located adjacent to the Broadwater in Southport
- Consists of full marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km, wheelchair marathon, Junior 2km run

SUNSHINE COAST
Runaway Noosa Full & Half Marathon – 24 May

Noosa Triathalon – 29 October – 2 November
- One of Australia’s most beloved triathlons, the Garmin Noosa Tri is ranked as one of the world’s top 10 triathalons. Run, swim, and ride along Noosa’s beautiful beach-side vibe and enjoy the week-long festivities of Noosa.

SYDNEY
Sydney Marathon – 31 August
- Tick this famous marathon off the bucket list, heading from North Sydney to Opera House taking in the iconic Sydney views
Sydney Half Marathon – 4 May
- Take in the best highlights of the Sydney CBD, making your way through the Northern side of the city

MELBOURNE
Great Ocean Road Running Festival – Sunday 18 May
- Make your way along the picturesque and iconic Great Ocean Road for one of the most stunning marathons in Australia

Melbourne Marathon – Sunday 12 October
- Start North of Rod Laver Arena and make your way through Melbourne CBD and your own athlete moment finishing at the MCG

Queenstown Marathon – Saturday 15 November
