Why This Laid-Back Coastal Town Should Be On Your Bali Itinerary

Another day in paradise

Ask just about anyone for their thoughts on Bali and you’ll likely hear a mix of opinions – some will rave about it, while others might mention their bout of Bali belly and vow never to return.

At first, I was sceptical myself, I had heard it was dirty and overrun with partygoers. But boy, was I wrong! If you know where to go and how to explore it, you’re in for the holiday of a lifetime.

Since then, I’ve been all around Bali from Canguu to Ubud and I have to say there’s one spot that takes the crown. And after a blissful ten-night stint, I’m hooked. This particularly stunning slice of Bali goes by the name Uluwatu and boasts lush landscapes, insane food, and the friendliest locals you’ll ever meet.

If you’re seeking some serious R&R (think Eat, Pray, Love but replace the rice paddies with sprawling beaches) then Uluwatu is for you. It’s a hotspot for surfers and yogis alike, yet still serves up Bali’s signature restaurants, pool clubs, and boutiques.

Here’s everything you need to add to your Uluwatu bucket list.

Stay

If you want to lap up the relaxed lifestyle that Uluwatu offers I suggest staying in Bingin – it’s a 5-minute scooter ride to pretty much everything you’d need. And bonus, you’ll be a stone’s throw away from Bingin Beach, where you can sip on $4AUD Bintang beers or coconuts and watch the sunset over the ocean every. single. evening.

Bingin also serves up some serious #accommodationgoals, with IG-worthy villas and hotels boasting 360-degree ocean views. We’re talking breathtaking sunrises, crazy sea views, and a serious dose of serenity.

Bingin is THE place to stay in Uluwatu. Like, seriously, don’t even think about staying anywhere else.

Eat

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a café hopper then you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear that Uluwatu has so many cafes to choose from. You’ll find a new fave spot around every corner.

My top picks? The Cashew Tree – a must-visit for coffee snobs, Drifter Surf – where surfers can be found chatting over their smashed avo, Kelly’s Warung – a local fave serving up delicious eats right on the beach, and Gooseberry – a hidden gem with super fresh ingredients!

Now, onto the main event – dinner! If you’re looking for a romantic dinner with a side of sunset views, Restaurant Abracadabra at Mu Bungalows is the best choice. Fresh pasta, seafood, and panoramic views? Yes, please!

But, if you’re in the mood for something else, don’t miss Bartolo – Italian cuisine at its finest, La Baracca – enjoy a complimentary Limoncello for dessert (because why not!), and Lola’s Cantina Mexicana – think Mexican fiesta vibes and delicious bites to match.

Shop

Uluwatu is not exactly a shopper’s paradise, and while it may not be the main attraction, the boutiques and markets are definitely worth a browse.

When you’re out and about on the weekends, keep an eye out for streetside markets. Trust me, they’re worth a stop! You never know what hidden gems you’ll stumble upon.

And of course, there are the more established boutiques like Cove, The Spice of Life, and Foxy Activewear (where you can score a whole workout ‘fit for about $40AUD).

Play

Fitness and well-being are huge in Uluwatu – there are some really trendy gyms like Bali Training Centre as well as yoga spots like Ombae. And when you need to recover from all that sweating, hit up recovery clinics like Santai Recovery Spa and Fondue Recovery for IV vitamin infusions, compression therapy, and ice baths.

Uluwatu’s spa scene is also on point, with treatments that won’t break the bank. Enjoy 60-minute massages from just $25AUD. Book in at Spring Spa, The Bambu Hut, and La Joya Senses Spa.

Don’t worry, party animals – Uluwatu has still got you covered. Head to Palmilla Beach Club, El Kabron, Sundays, and Savaya for a day or night to remember (or shall we say forget?).

There you have it, folks! Uluwatu has stolen my heart and I promise it’ll steal yours too. Book your ticket, grab your sunscreen, and be prepared to fall in love with Bali’s best beachside town.
