The World’s Largest Luxury Safari Experience Is Right Here In Australia
untamed luxury
By Natalie McGowan | 26th June 2026As it turns out, you don’t have to make the painstaking 24-hour-plus journey to the Serengeti to experience the otherworldly, raw beauty of seeing animals in the wild. Just one hour outside of Adelaide is Monarto Safari Park, where the largest open-range safari outside of Africa and recently opened luxury Safari Lodges bring the wild to Australia.
Home to more than 50 species of exotic and native animals across 1,500 hectares of open-range plains, Monarto Safari Resort is an experience unto itself. But with the recent addition of Safari Lodge at Monarto Safari Resort, the experience becomes truly standout.

A luxury glamping experience
Situated deep in the Wild Africa precinct of the park, the all-inclusive luxury tents have been thoughtfully designed to completely immerse you in nature. From the surrounding environment to the materials used in the build, like locally-sourced Wallaroo granite and Australian dry-pressed bricks, that grounded connection to the land is felt everywhere you go.
Featuring 20 intimate and secluded safari tents, each with its own private outdoor deck and sweeping views of the nearby waterhole, it offers a front-row seat to the spectacle of wildlife roaming just metres away. Beyond the tents, guests can make use of the central lodge, which includes plunge pools and a swimming pool overlooking the plains; free-flowing wines, cocktails, and beers alongside multi-course meals spotlighting regional produce on a constantly-changing menu; a gym and a pickleball court for leisurely games in between animal sightings; and the Marula Day Spa, a rejuvenating retreat after a big day out in the wild.

“The combination of bespoke accommodations, fine dining, and private wildlife viewing is an unparalleled experience within Australia,” says Andreas Huck, General Manager of Monarto Safari Resort. “It’s an authentic safari atmosphere, offering the convenience of experiencing African wildlife without the need for international travel.”
Bringing Africa to Australia
Each stay includes a multi-day pass to Monarto Safari Park and a Wild Africa Sunset Safari; hop on board an open-sided Land Cruiser and spend the afternoon traversing the precinct with a knowledgeable guide, spotting free-roaming giraffes, zebras, hyenas, lions, southern white rhinos, and cheetahs as they lurk in the grass or bask in the golden hour sun.
And while animal sightings can never be guaranteed, Andreas notes that the “strategic design and layout of the lodge provide a high likelihood of encountering diverse wildlife.”

Conservation at its heart
Perhaps the most important factor of all is the lodge’s contribution to conservation, donating a portion of every stay to Monarto Safari Park’s ongoing local and global conservation programmes. “This funding supports various initiatives aimed at protecting endangered species and promoting biodiversity, ensuring that guests contribute to meaningful environmental efforts while enjoying their stay,” says Andreas.
More than 70 per cent of the species here are threatened with extinction in the wild – a sobering statistic that hits very differently once you’ve seen these animals up close. But with every stay contributing directly to the conservation work trying to change that, it turns out there’s never been a better reason to book a second night.
