Smash a plate
By Isabella Pesch | 5th April 2023Prep your appetite for honey puffs and gyros because Brisbane’s favourite Greek festival is making its annual return this May! That’s right, folks, Paniyiri Greek Festival is coming back to West End’s Musgrave Park from Saturday 20 May to Sunday 21 May for its 47th year in a huge celebration of Greek culture and heritage.
Picture two fabulous days of traditional Zorba dance, music, cooking demonstrations, and mouth-watering eats guaranteed to transport you to the vibrant streets of Mykonos. Festival-goers will be treated to stalls selling the likes of souvlaki, Greek wines, honey puffs, and more, including the chance to win two return tickets to Greece via the raffle. As for the little ones, there will be a variety of family activities to keep them entertained across the two-day celebration.
If you’re more of a history buff yourself, the culture program will be running throughout the festival with a historical display featuring three Greek women in the arts: Maria Callas, Melina Mercuri, and Irene Papas. Round off your cultural weekend, with an exclusive tour of the Greek Orthodox Church.
This year, the theme is ‘Picnic at Paniyiri’, so make sure you dust off your trusty blanket and set up camp on the park lawns. Or, for those looking for a festival souvenir, Paniyiri picnic blankets will be ready to buy throughout the weekend. Yassou!
