Iris Van Herpen’s Breathtaking Sculptural Designs Are Coming Exclusively To BNE
Internationally acclaimed
With a creative talent that’s been sought-after by the likes of Beyonce, Björk, Cate Blanchett, Lady Gaga, and Tilda Swinton, experiencing the breathtaking innovation of Iris Van Herpen might seem like a pipe dream, but we’re here to tell you that dream is coming true!
Exclusive to Brisbane, QAGOMA is set to host an immersive exhibition detailing the world of the internationally acclaimed Dutch fashion designer this June until October. Sculpting The Senses will see fashion, art, design, science, and technology collide, across close to 100 garments in conversation with contemporary artworks, natural history specimens and cultural artefacts from which Iris Van Herpen draws inspiration.
The designer’s unconventional approach to design has brought to life sculptural silhouettes that capture a deep curiosity for the university through haute couture. From marine biology to quantum physics, her work evokes the intricacy and diversity of the natural world using dynamic techniques and sophisticated technologies. In other words? It has to be seen to be believed.
Iris Van Herpen: Sculpting The Senses is curated by Clóe Pitiot and Louise Curtis from Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in collaboration with Nina Miall and Jacinta Giles of QAGOMA. Complementing Iris Van Herpen’s pieces will be sensory masterpieces, like shadow projections, astronomical photographs, and kinetic artwork, culminating in a truly awe-inspiring experience you’ll be raving about for a long time to come.
