Living in the sub-tropics has its perks. Wearing shorts in winter, swimming in the ocean all year round. But when it rains, it really does pour. Check out our ultimate guide of things to do in Brisbane on rainy days!
Netherworld Arcade | Fortitude Valley
At $1 per game on these vintage machines, the Netherworld Arcade may actually be one of the best value ways to spend an afternoon. Choose from classic pinball, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and many more. You can even grab a bite to eat and a drink or two between games.
Escape Room | South Brisbane
Quest Room is an interactive escape room challenge for a team of up to six people. Becoming popular worldwide, the aim of the 60-minute experience is to work together in a team and figure out how to get out of the room.
iFly | Gold Coast
Open until 9pm during the week this is a great rainy date night activity. If you have never experienced indoor skydiving (or real skydiving for that matter!) then iFly is a must. Guided by the iFly instructors you will learn some basic skydiving skills in the wind tunnel. Be warned, this is literally the best thing you will ever do and you will instantly become totally addicted (sorry in advance bank balance).
Flip Out | Strathpine
No need to let your exercise regime slip just because it is raining! Head to Flip Out indoor trampoline park in Strathpine and burn up some cals bouncing to your heart's content. Learn some new trampolining, gymnastic, wall running or parkour skills at this bouncy adult-sized play park.
Urban Climb | West End
If you don’t fancy trampolining, indoor climbing is another great way to get some exercise in the rain. It is super social and great for core and upper body strength. The great thing about climbing indoors is that people of all abilities can climb together on the same wall. Total beginner? No worries, the team at Urban Climb can show you the ropes (soz, too punny?!).
Glow Worm Caves | Mount Tamborine
Easily one of the most under-rated activities on the Gold Coast, the Glow Worm Caves on Mount Tamborine are well worth a rainy-day visit.
QPAC | South Bank
There are so many cool shows around Brisbane with daytime performances, perfect for a rainy day. Our very own Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) offers matinée performances on a Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Further afield, catch the Sunday lunchtime show at the Gold Coast’s Outback Spectacular or the Drax for Kids at Draculas next to Pacific Fair in Broadbeach.
The Blue Room Cinebar | Paddington
What could be better than a movie or two on a rainy day? A movie accompanied by tasty brews, cocktails and bar food delivered to your seat in the cinema while you watch, that’s what! Whether you are spending a gloomy day with your S.O., your mum or your bestie, the movies are a winner every time.
Treasury Casino | Brisbane CBD
Feeling lucky? Head to the Treasury Casino any time of the day or night to catch a game at the 24/7 sports bar, try your hand at roulette or challenge the virtual blackjack machine to a round or two. With live music, a selection of dining options and of course, a fully stocked bar, we can’t think of a better place to ride out the stormy weather.
Laserforce | Woolloongabba
If you haven’t played laser tag before it is like paintball, but without the painful bruises from bullets the next day. If you have been feeling cooped up with all the rain, stretch your legs with a game of laser tag!
Dandelion & Driftwood High Tea | Hendra
Head to Dandelion & Driftwood, brought to us by the owners of Wolff Coffee Roasters, for an indulgent high tea. If Hendra isn’t anywhere near your pad (because let's face it, no one likes driving in the rain!), check out these Brisbane high tea options, which are also perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth and keeping you out of the rain.
Slideways Go Karting | Hamilton
If you love driving on the beach or racing around the track on your bike, get your adrenaline rush indoors until the storm blows over. Challenge your mates to a race around the indoor track at Slideways Go Karting Hamilton.
Gold Coast Wake Park | Oxenford, Gold Coast
Similar to a day out on the Aqua Park, the Wake Park is another “you were gonna get wet anyway” type of deal. If you have never tried it before sign-up for a lesson with the park’s wake pros, or if you just want to perfect those epic wakeboard skills, sign up for a few hours riding. The best thing is you don’t need any of your own equipment as it is all available to hire at the park. If you are heading to the snow this winter this is a great activity to get your riding legs back! If you decide not to head out on the water they have an awesome clubhouse with cold brews, tasty food and a view over the lake.
Bliss Float | Bulimba
If you haven’t experienced floating before we highly recommend it. If floating isn’t your thing, there is no need to mope about at home just because it’s raining. Check out all the awesome day spas, right here in Brisbane. Relax with a soothing massage, get your skin in check after a long summer with a refreshing facial, or pamper your hands and feet with a mani-pedi.
Train line pub crawl | Brisbane suburbs
As the saying goes, you can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning. If there was ever an excuse to get started early on the weekend, it is stormy weather! If the concept of a public transport based pub crawl is foreign to you, this is how it works. 1. Pick a train line. 2. Pick a start point. 3. Choose one pub close to each station to stop at. 4. Rally the squad and get drinking (remember to take a brolly!).
Holey Moley | Fortitude Valley
Putt putt is the age-old activity that just doesn’t get old! If you love crazy golf Holey Moley is where you want to spend your rainy day in Brisbane. The whacky décor, friendly staff and choice of two different nine-hole courses will have you coming back week after week. Great as an activity with the kids or for a night out with the gals as they have a stellar cocktail list to boot. Not just good for rainy days in Brisbane either because there are Holey Moley locations on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast too!
