A $250M Luxury Expansion Is Coming To Sandstone Point Hotel
By Kiri Johnston | 8th August 2025Frozen margs, infinity pools, and five-star suites — Sandstone Point Hotel is going next level. Already a cult-favourite for its waterfront concerts and beachy energy, the venue has announced a $250 million luxury expansion that’s set to transform Moreton Bay into Queensland’s next resort hotspot. Just in time for Brisbane 2032, the upgrade will bring a five-star hotel, new dining precinct, and event spaces with serious destination appeal.
So, what’s actually coming?
Resort-style living meets all-day entertainment.
The expansion includes a 10-storey five-star hotel, complete with 202 suites (including one-, two-, and three-bedroom options), all with sweeping views of the Pumicestone Passage. Expect laidback luxury with a side of Mediterranean sun.
Here’s a taste of what’s planned:
An infinity pool overlooking the water
An adults-only pool with a DJ and swim-up bar
Dedicated family zones and splash-friendly spaces
A full wellness centre, spa, and gym
Chic new restaurants and bars
Bowling alleys and indoor fun
A retail and tourism precinct
Luxe event spaces for weddings, retreats + long lunches
Weekend away, girls trip, long lunch or wedding? This place ticks every box.
Why it matters
Aside from being extremely our vibe, this development is a big win for Queensland tourism.
Once complete, it’s expected to:
Create almost 1,000 jobs
Attract over 117,000 overnight stays a year
Inject $143M annually into the local economy
And with the 2032 Olympics fast approaching, the timing couldn’t be better. South-East Queensland currently has far fewer hotel rooms than other major global cities — this expansion is all about future-proofing the region with world-class stays and seriously elevated experiences.
Wasn’t it already a good time?
Yes. And it still is. But it’s about to be better.
Sandstone Point Hotel already has the bones of a cult-favourite venue: a seafood restaurant, multiple bars, Mozzarella Mafia (their new alfresco pizzeria), and the Oyster Shed Beach Club — a waterfront hangout with daybeds, margs, and an ice cream bar.
It’s also a go-to for live music, with a 12,000-person amphitheatre that’s hosted everyone from The Veronicas to Jimmy Barnes. With upgraded concert facilities, better transport access, and expanded parking part of the new plans, it’s gearing up to become an even bigger destination for events and good times.
When’s it happening?
The development application is expected to be lodged with council in the coming weeks, with construction tipped to take around two years. If all goes to plan, the new hotel will open ahead of the 2032 Olympics.
The Comiskey Group — the hospitality team behind the project — is also seeking eco-tourism partners to help make the resort even more sustainable, and in talks with global brands to bring the vision to life.
