Newstead's so hot right now, Newstead
It’s unlikely you’re new to the suburb and popularity of Newstead. The bubble is known as the place to be with boutique shopping, luxe living and aesthetically pleasing haunts worth a plethora of Insta snaps. Yet, with so much hustle and bustle within the 4006, can you really say you know Newstead if you don’t know these go-to’s?

Cheeky Poke
Some say your body is a temple and it most certainly will feel that way after eating here. Get your health-conscious crew together and meet at Cheeky Poke Newstead for a quick bite or for a wholesome yet hearty meal. Conveniently located at Haven it’s the locals go-to. Enjoy a soul warming noodle soup, nourishing poke bowl or a cheeky sashimi taco or two. Pro-tip – you can enjoy Taco Tuesday at Cheeky every Tuesday with $5 tacos… you can thank us later! Who knew Hawaiian-Japanese fusion would taste this good!
Beccofino
If you know what’s good for ya, you would’ve experienced Beccofino by now. The iconic Italian restaurant is renowned Brisbane-wide by locals and visitors alike for all the right reasons. We’re talkin’ the real deal Italian pizza bases and flavours featuring truffle, pork sausage and prosciutto as well as delish eats like calamari, duck, meatballs and arancini (just to name a few). If you want a good feed made easy while the service and setting remains stellar, Beccofino it is.
La Macelleria Gelateria
Heading up the top end of Commercial Road towards the river you’ll find yourself a no-fuss dessert haven. A haunt of eats so worth the calories. Step from the street to the sweet and taste for yourself some of Brisbane’s finest gelato and cakes with authentic Italian flavour. Back in 2012, pals Matteo and Matteo decided to ditch economics and head for dessert success, bringing the taste of their city Bologna to Brisbane. Eight years later, they have four locations and offer premium cakes, classes and have launched an epic events attraction: The Ape Car. We would say see it for yourself on Instagram, but instead taste it for yourself! Our pick is the Panettone filled with Gelato. They also have an online shop of gelato (obviously) and a range of local products with many locations available for free delivery!
The Lounge & Co.
Great hair starts here. In fact, a great day starts here and I’m saying that from personal experience! With the warm ambience from the team and curated interior design (fire pit included), your tresses will feel as soothed as your soul. Whether it be for a full-blown hair transformation, routine trim or style sesh before an event, Candice can do it all. We recently tried and tested The Lounge & Co for ourselves, seeing if the talk around town about their blow-dries were worth the hype? The outcome – read here to find out! The Lounge & Co have also made the cut (literally) for our 2020 round-up of both Brisbane’s Best Hairdressers and Hair Colourists and for all the right reasons. Just one scroll through their Instagram and you’ll see what all the hype is about! The Lounge & Co is a must see, feel, and do and a no-brainer when it comes to Newstead’s hottest spots.
Lucent Apartments
When you make it to the top it’s all about the amenities and that’s exactly what you’ll find at the exclusive Lucent Newstead! The iconic residence is where you’ll want to reside if you’re making Newstead your permanent stomping ground. With a rooftop oasis boasting a 55m lap pool and panoramic city views it’s no wonder this is the place half of Newstead want to be. And yes, they do also have a virtual golf-course – need we say more?
Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen
Any afternoon and evening in the week on any day ending in y, Mrs Brown’s is the place to be. Step into an airy space with where touches of art deco meets warehouse chic. The light space offers a range of seating options depending on the size of your group and the vibe you’re after, from high tables to street side lounging. The food is just as impressive as their drinks menu, dishing up a variety of plates ideal for sharing (go for their cheesy goodness spring rolls or prawn rolls). The drinks and cocktails on the other hand, you’ll want to keep all to yourself. With an extensive wine, beer and cocktail menu the choices are endless. Can’t decide? Just ask the talented and educated bar staff for their pick and what you’re after, and in no time, you’ll be drink in hand and enjoying the ambience of one of Newstead’s best bars alongside locals.
Salt Coffee
If you want to immerse yourself in the local Newstead scene, Salt should be your first port of call. Walk into a cool and calm haunt with friendly faces awaiting your order while being tempted by the delish treats on-hand. Zac and the team pump out the caffeine hits cup by cup with a dash of chocolate (if you so desire) as the locals and their pooches gather around for routine banter. It’s the ideal way to start your day – trialled and tested!
TotalFusion
Newstead is all about the exclusives, the fresh, the aesthetically pleasing, wholesome and new (is this why they called it Newstead?), so no wonder TotalFusion’s Platinum location fits right in. Taking ‘gym’ to a whole other level, TotalFusion offers a boujee and luxe experience. Posing a unique blend of technically curated classes in state-of-the-art studios, getting fit won’t feel like a chore, it’ll feel decadent.
