12 Of Brisbane’s Best Sunday Sessions

12 Of Brisbane’s Best Sunday Sessions

The weekend isn’t over yet.

By Siobhan Taylor | 14th September 2017

While Friday’s are ideal for after-work drinks and Saturday night is perfect for cocktails in an underground bar, Sunday is allllll about day drinking! If you’re nursing a hangover from Saturday’s antics or simply anticipating the return of another Monday, Sundays are something of an Australian tradition, and no one would blame you for showing up Monday morning a little bit dusty. Make the most of this glorious weather and every last drop of the weekend, with our selection of Brisbane’s Best Sunday Sessions!

Summer House Restaurant, Bar & Café | Kangaroo Point

With ‘summer’ in the name, we would be awfully surprised if Summer House Restaurant, Bar & Café didn’t more than deliver the summery vibes we crave during a Sunday sesh. Directly opposite the incredible Kangaroo Point Cliffs, Summer House is the perfect destination for outdoor drinking as the weather warms up. With boutique wines, signature cocktails, delicious tapas, and live music 5 nights a week, this might just be Brisbane’s very own paradise. Pair their tempura prawn bruschetta with a bottle of bubbly for the most pleasant of Sunday arvos.

Eat Street Northshore | Hamilton

While we all know about the mouth-watering bites available at Eat Street, you might not have realised that they are also a pretty awesome destination for a laid back Sunday sesh! With three bars serving up bubbles, beers, cocktails and mocktails every Sunday afternoon, you can wile away the remainder of the weekend while enjoying live music and delicious eats from over 70 vendors. Is there a better way to enjoy a drink?

The Palace Supper Club | Fortitude Valley

If the phrase “Sunday sessions” has you thinking of beer gardens, hot weather and sticky floors and lusting after something a little more sparkling, then we are thrilled to introduce you to The Palace Supper Club. Easily one of Brisbane’s most aesthetically gorgeous venues, The Palace Supper Club boasts an epic lounge space perfect for sipping cocktails, as well as intimate private booths, an expansive alfresco verandah, and long marble-top bar that will have you returning again and again and again. Seriously, it’s stunning. Of course, the main attraction for a Sunday session is the drinks menu, of which The Palace Supper Club boasts one that is truly stellar, but it would be amiss not to sample something from their bar menu. The King Prawn Roll is honestly life-changing.

Watt Restaurant & Bar | New Farm

Beautifully situated on the Brisbane River, Watt Restaurant & Bar has “Sunday sesh” written all over it. We honestly can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday than lazing about in New Farm Park (BBQ optional – but recommended) and following it up with a beer (or five – we don’t judge) on the sun-drenched patio of Watt. Really, what more could you ask for? And just a tip, their charcuterie board is easily one of Brisbane’s best. EVERYTHING is prepared in house!

Eleven Rooftop Bar | Fortitude Valley

What would be a Sunday sesh list without the iconic Eleven Rooftop Bar? Sitting eleven floors above Ann Street, this sandstone rooftop bar boasts an impressive almost-360 degree view of Brisbane, the perfect backdrop to afternoons sipping on your favourite bubbly. With all your favourite brews on tap, live music, a wide range of bites (including seared scallops and creamy gnocchi!), and a stellar collection of cocktails, why would you want to be anywhere else?

The Defiant Duck | Newstead

With buckets of Southern fried chicken, prawns, onion rings and fries, The Defiant Duck dishes up all-star American fare with a strong side of Southern hospitality. In addition to the stellar feed, you can also pick from 24 craft and local beers on tap, as well as a wide range of wine and cocktails. And of course, live streaming of all major games! Cheer on your team alongside a crowd of fans, with a beer in one hand and a burg’ in the other. Score!

Sixes And Sevens | Fortitude Valley

How could we NOT mention this iconic Brisbane bar? Sixes And Sevens has more than earned its place on this list, renowned for their sprawling courtyard, beer garden, and low-key Queenslander charm. If you’re keen to enjoy live music, boutique cheese boards, mouth-watering burgers, and a delicious selection of cocktails, you need to swing by Sunday afternoon to enjoy the very best of this Brisbane institution.

Newstead Brewing Co. | Newstead, Milton

If you’re planning a Sunday session, turn your eyes to Holy Grail brewers, Newstead Brewing Co. With brewery-bars in both Newstead and Milton, Newstead Brewing Co. is the perfect destination for a drink or two and a couple of eats while winding your weekend. The Milton brewery alone boasts 32 beers on tap across three bars, pouring an ever-changing combination of their own brews as well as other guest favourites. And of course, the food! Expect everything from big, satisfying meals that will fill you up, right through to cured meats and handy nibbles.

Riverbar And Kitchen | Eagle Street Pier

Riverbar And Kitchen is another Brisbane favourite (the crowds from 5PM are a testimony to this fact), and for very good reason. With gorgeous views of the Brisbane River and Story Bridge and some of the best damn cocktails in Brisbane (three words: Lychee Mojito jug!), it’s no surprise that Riverbar is a little bit like heaven. Grab a table on the river, a couple of plates of bites, some good mates, and you’ll be set for the entire evening.

The Fox | South Bank

You can’t tell me you’ve never heard of the incredibly popular Soho Sundays at The Fox’s Dandy’s Rooftop. Squeeze every last drop from your Sunday while lingering over a couple of pizzas, jugs of cocktails, and live DJ’s, and make the most of your last few hours of leisure. Incredibly popular with the younger crowd, you might find yourself struggling to keep up when the party starts picking up around 7PM, but don’t worry – just try your best.

Eagles Nest | Kangaroo Point

Twelve floors above Kangaroo Point, Eagles Nest offers gorgeous panoramic views of the city skyline, Brisbane River, and iconic Story Bridge – all within a relaxed, outdoor rooftop bar. How good does that sound?! Open to the public Friday through Sunday from 3PM, Eagles Nest has one of the best vantage points in town to sip on a drink and share a few bites with friends. Less rowdy than some of the other destinations in this list, Eagles Nest is perfect for catching up with friends and enjoying the last few hours of your weekend. Meet me on the 12th floor with a pitcher of Pimms!

Green Beacon Brewing | Teneriffe

The Green Beacon beer hall is perfect for knocking back a few cold ones on a Sunday afternoon. Choose from their insanely good selection of brews (including the core range, seasonal range and special releases) and vibe the cool and buzzing atmosphere of this unique drinking destination. And of course, it’s no surprise that their drinks go down amazingly well with some eats which is why you can either choose from their dece selection of share plates which includes Moreton Bay bugs, bar snacks, and cheese and salami platters. Sunday sesh done right!
