A New Contemporary Art Exhibition Lands at Studio Gallery

By Kiri Johnston | 23rd October 2025A new exhibition has arrived at Studio Gallery Fortitude Valley, bringing the work of London-based contemporary artist Elsbeth Shaw to Brisbane for the first time in a significant solo showcase.
Titled Perfectly in Time, the exhibition explores rhythm, repetition, and structure through Shaw’s signature circular forms — works that sit somewhere between precision and poetry. Each piece is carefully constructed from hundreds of meticulously placed dots, forming hypnotic compositions that shift between abstraction and subtle figurative influence.
Art meets fashion and form
A highlight of the exhibition is To Watch Sunrise, a collaborative work between Shaw and acclaimed Sydney fashion designer Mariam Seddiq. Created to mark Seddiq’s 10-year milestone in fashion, the piece translates the designer’s sculptural silhouettes into a visual rhythm of form, geometry, and motion — merging the worlds of couture and contemporary art.
Why Brisbane?
Although based in London, Shaw has found a receptive audience in Australia — particularly in Brisbane’s growing architecture and design community. Her work has appeared in projects by Shaun Lockyer and GRAYA™, and has even hung in cult-favourite fashion boutique Calexico.
Her return to Brisbane with Perfectly in Time feels like a continuation of this relationship — a quiet nod to the city’s evolving creative culture and its appetite for art that sits at the intersection of design, fashion, and fine detail.
