Behind The Scenes: Crafting The Perfect Rug For Our Studio

Since launching our in-house photography studio, we’ve gradually been adding styling props and furniture items to create a more aesthetically pleasing and visually cohesive space. However, we quickly realised we were missing a major piece – a canvas beneath our feet to harmonise and add warmth to the overall space. Enter Designer Rugs, an oasis where artistic vision manifests into functional art.
Our quest to elevate our studio led us on an exciting journey, one that we documented and are excited to share. It all began with a spark of inspiration, and a desire to infuse our space with a touch of character and charm.

With a loose vision in mind, we stepped into the Designer Rugs showroom, located conveniently on Arthur Street, Fortitude Valley, and were greeted by an array of colours, designs, and textures. We were given a guided tour through the showroom by Sonia and Mira, their passionate in-house consultants, to preview and feel the incredible rugs, many of which include some of their statement and signature collaborations with iconic Australian artists and designers such as Catherine Martin, Akira Isogawa, Dinosaur Designs, and Minnie Pwerl.
As we soaked up the stunning colour palettes and intricate rug designs flanking the walls and showroom floor, our eyes were quickly drawn to one style in particular – the ‘Walter’. With its curves and two-tone simplicity, reminiscent of art deco industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teagues iconic Kodak camera, we instantly felt a connection to the symmetry and line work and knew that this rug was the missing puzzle piece to our studio décor. Once we landed on a design, it was time to customise the colours and sizing dimensions that we felt would complement our existing studio décor.
The interactive process allowed us to fine-tune every aspect, ensuring that our rug embodied not only our vision but also the soul of our studio. Our request was submitted by the incredible showroom team and now all that was to do is wait for our masterpiece to be meticulously handcrafted and dispatched to us.
With bated breath, we awaited the grand reveal. When the moment arrived, the team at Designer Rugs delivered our stunning custom piece directly to our door, ready to be marvelled and enjoyed. Our collaboration with Designer Rugs was a smooth, seamless experience, leaving us in awe of their dedication and craftsmanship.
From the initial consultation to the final delivery, they looked after us beautifully, ensuring every detail was meticulously addressed and we were kept informed throughout every step of the way.
Now, it’s time to simply enjoy this epic new addition to our studio space and bask in the pride of hosting meetings, photoshoots and studio bookings for our clients knowing they’ll effortlessly slip into a space that truly represents ‘us’.
