Koala And Pantone Have Created A Colour Inspired By The Australian Landscape

It’s a question Australian furniture brand Koala set out to answer in collaboration with the Pantone Color Institute™, resulting in – a rich, earthy green inspired by eucalyptus forests, coastal scrub and the ever-changing light that defines the Australian landscape.
Launching across a curated collection of Koala‘s best-selling furniture and homewares, Australia 01 is more than a new colourway. It’s a celebration of Australian design, creativity and the landscapes that continue to shape how we live.
Designed to feel equally at home in contemporary interiors and relaxed coastal spaces, the versatile green shifts beautifully throughout the day. In natural sunlight, it appears fresh and airy, before deepening into a warm, enveloping hue as the afternoon light fades.
The exclusive colour will debut across several of Koala’s signature pieces, including the Torquay Modular Sofa, Koala Sofa Bed, Wanda Sofa Bed, mattresses with Australia 01 detailing, along with coordinating cushions and throws.

“Australia has one of the most distinctive visual identities in the world, yet it’s incredibly difficult to distil into a single colour,” says Alexandra Owen, Global Head of Product Design at Koala. “What emerged through this process with the Pantone Color Institute was a colour that feels deeply familiar. It’s inspired by the eucalyptus canopy, coastal scrub and inland landscapes that many Australians have an emotional connection to.”
Art Inspired By Country
To mark the launch, Koala commissioned three Australian artists, Shannon Heath, Dan Kyle and Niah McLeod, to create original works inspired by Australia 01 and their own interpretations of the Australian landscape.
Each artist brings a distinctly different perspective, exploring colour, memory and place through contemporary abstraction, landscape painting and Indigenous storytelling. Together, the collection reflects the diverse ways Australia’s natural environment continues to inspire creative practice.
The artworks will be auctioned via ArtBid from 16 July to 16 August, with 100 per cent of proceeds supporting Karrkad Kanjdji Trust, an Indigenous-led conservation organisation protecting Country through traditional land management across West Arnhem Land.
“Australia 01 is ultimately a celebration of place,” Owen says. “It felt important that the project give back to organisations helping protect the iconic Australian landscapes that inspired it.”
With Australia 01, Koala has created more than a colour. It has captured a distinctly Australian palette that feels familiar, grounded and deeply connected to the landscape we call home.
