Airlie Beach: The Hottest Destination
Experience the wonders of the Whitsundays!
If you’ve missed out on your Euro summer dreams, make up for it with a trip to the idyllic Airlie Beach. Think the same sparkling waters as Croatia with a ton of Australian hospitality. Branded as the beating heart of The Whitsundays, set up at Airlie Beach and explore the surrounding islands – with a cocktail in hand, of course! The sweeping coastline dotted with sailboats and lined with palm trees makes for the ultimate summer destination.
Active wear? Check! Don’t forget your Lululemon tights because you won’t want to miss the stroll from Cannonvale Beach into the Airlie Beach Lagoon. Take in the breathtaking views and try your luck at spotting some marine life. Don’t worry, it isn’t all walk and no play. Stop along the way to enjoy a latte at a groovy local café or bring a book to read at one of the secret beaches along the way.
Airlie Beach Lagoon
Don’t let salty stingers stop you from swimming in the tropical Queensland heat – the Airlie Beach Lagoon is the perfect sting-free destination to cool off in. Smack bang in the middle of the main street, the lagoon is perfect for those post-breakfast, pre-dinner, post-ice-cream (all day really, let’s be real) swims.
From the Beach to the Bar
Fortitude Valley who? Airlie Beach is renowned for its bustling night life and for good reason. Packed with backpacker hostels, snazzy wine bars and nightclubs, the beach destination has something for everyone. Fingers crossed the dance floors open up soon, but in the meantime, enjoy a sunset drink (or three – we don’t judge), at the Sorrento Restaurant & Bar.
Sail Away Island Style
We weren’t kidding when we said that Airlie could make up for that missed Euro summer trip. If you’re after a hint of adventure, why not try your hand at sailing. Take your time and explore the Whitsundays, from the glorious Whitehaven Beach to some of the best snorkelling spots in the world. Re-fuelling after a day in the sun is a must. The Airlie Beach Reservations Centre has you covered with an option to indulge in a meal made by local French Chef, Alan Antonius, while cruising the seas. Ah, the serenity!
Chase That Waterfall
If you need an escape from the hustle and bustle of the main hub, pack a picnic lunch and head to Cedar Creek Falls. Just a 30-minute drive from Airlie Beach, the short road trip will take you to the lush Whitsunday Coast Hinterland. Amongst the abundant rainforest you’ll find a secluded natural waterhole that’s the perfect backdrop for the gram. Be sure to pack your GoPro, as rumour has it that turtles are often spotted here.
