One for the nippers

By Astrid Taemets | 10th November 2022

Eating out with your little ones is risky business, and while most places will do their best to accommodate tiny tribes, some places welcome little rugrats, meaning you can have your cake and eat it (literally), too.

Below are the best kid-friendly cafes on the Gold Coast and beyond, where messy meals and chaos are just part and parcel of the experience.

By the way, we consider everyone in this list the best of the best! To make finding your next favourite that much easier, we’ve ordered the list alphabetically by suburb and also have filtering tabs for your convenience. Did we miss someone from the list? Let us know here!   Hide the form

Paddock Bakery

Burleigh Heads

Kids, pups, and pastries should be the slogan for this Queenslander home turned heaving establishment, where lining up to get a taste of what they offer is all part of the experience. Packed with locals, holiday-goers, day trippers, and those passing through on the daily, their menu excels in delivering simple food en masse. Pull up a chair in their charming outside courtyard amongst the tumbling garden and dig into creme fraiche scrambled eggs while the kids order a Cookie Monster from the milk bar, or grab a takeaway fresh juice and pastry from the cabinet for the grommets and pull up a spot on the nearby Burleigh Heads hill.

Stones Throw

Currumbin

A kid-friendly cafe that ticks all the boxes? Welcome to Stones Throw: a fenced green oasis complete with a large deck overlooking the grass, veggie gardens, cubby caravan, and sand pit. Yep, it’s the ideal spot to bring your rugrats for a play while you sit under a shady tree with a cuppa. Offering up breakfast, brunch, and lunch options with heat like the bibimbap and sticky pork tacos, as well as your run-of-the-mill faves like eggs on toast, brekky burritos, and acai bowls. As for the kids, there are sweet treats like Nutella pancakes, French toast, and a kids platter which means you won’t have little fingers tucking into yours!

Custard Canteen

Tallebudgera Creek

Where can you find all the coast kids swimming on a Saturday morning? That’d be Tallebudgera Creek, and you’ll find Custard perched right on the shores of it. With an all-day brunch menu, pastries, and refreshing sips churning out through the takeaway window, Canteen is a laidback locale where kids roam free barefoot in swimmers without a care in the world. Easily one of the best located family-friendly hangouts in the hood alongside sister cafes Bam Bam and Cubby Bakehouse (yes, they’re listed too), Canteen will serve you and your small ones a guaranteed good time.

Bam Bam Bakehouse

Mermaid Beach

So, it turns out the team behind Bam Bam Bakehouse really has a monopoly on kid-friendly cafes in this neck of the woods, and the cult-following pastry delights here are second to none. If you find yourself catching a few rollers in Mermaid Beach, be sure to fuel up your little ones with yummy treats that require two hands.

Cubby Bakehouse

Chinderah

If the name wasn’t enough of a giveaway, Cubby Bakehouse is where those in the Northern Rivers take their tots for a bite and a bit o’ fun. Just like Bam Bam and Custard Canteen, Cubby welcomes all walks of life, and the fenced grassy courtyard is the perfect place to pat a pup and let your little one bite into a messy jelly donut. With picnic tables sprawled out on the fenced green space just across the road from the scenic Tweed River, this is the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy a cuppa in the sunshine amongst other like-minded families.

Stable

Currumbin

Tucked inside the beautifully designed Cornerstone Stores, Stable is a haven for parents dining with their little ones. With a large fenced grassy area complete with umbrellas and picnic tables, Stable has a menu that’ll make you drool, with a dedicated kids section to boot! But a morning bit here isn’t just about the food – it’s about the people and their pooches. A warm and friendly environment for those out for a post-jog coffee, pre-surf fuel-up, and all those in between, Stable is a Currumbin favourite that won’t disappoint. Love a cheeky wine amongst mates? Keep an eye on their Instagram for updates on their Twilight Nights where you can BYO picnic rug and enjoy live music, food, and drinks under the twinkling lights.
