The Ekka is back and better than ever! Ask any Queenslander and they’ll tell you that the real highlight of the show isn’t the cute baby animals, show-stopping show bags, or exhilarating rides – it’s the strawberry sundaes, baby!
Of course, fairgoers aren’t the only ones wanting to get their strawberry sundae fix. The Brisbane dining scene is also taking cues and serving up an array of strawberry sundae-inspired dishes to sweeten your day. From waffle stacks to jam-packed croissants (literally), here’s where you can get a berry good taste of the Ekka magic.

King Street Bakery
Conveniently located right next to the Ekka making it the perfect pit stop before the show, this year King Street Bakery is upping the ante with their strawberry sundae-inspired NY roll. The delightfully flaky treat features croissant dough filled with strawberry coulis and strawberry pastry cream, topped with fresh strawberries and toasted almonds.
Ah McCain, they’ve done it again! Darvella Patisserie is bringing back their iconic strawberry sundae croissant that you’re going to want to get your hands on. The signature two-toned croissant cone holds dollops of vanilla custard and strawberry gel topped with vanilla chantilly, strawberry sauce, and fresh strawberries. Only available on 16, 19, and 20 August, this one needs to be on the top of your priority list.
SK Steak & Oyster
Feeling a little extra bouj this Ekka season? SK Steak & Oyster’s strawberry cake is the indulgent way to get your strawberry and cream fix, perfectly paired with a martini (or two, or three). Their sweet and decadent signature dessert is made with fresh cream, strawberry puree, mascarpone, and a careful selection of strawbs, making for a fabulously fruity bite every time.
Vegans and plant-based diners, don’t miss out on the strawberry sundae action! Plant Vibes is slinging three specials until Wednesday 16 August: strawberry sundae waffles, strawberry mylkshakes, and a vegan take on the good ol’ strawberry sundae. Just up the road from the showgrounds, the sweet-as-pie spot is a must-visit.
Pop on over to one of Jocelyn’s Provisions four locations in Albion, James St, Brisbane City, or Camp Hill and get your hands on their decadently delicious strawberry and cream cruffins. Available in-store on Friday, Saturday, and Tuesday, each Jocelyn’s only has limited stock so make sure you’re first in line.
Keep the Ekka magic going all month long at Paddington Social, where you’ll find strawberry sundae-inspired goodies for the whole of August. That’s right, folks, the strawberry sundae croissant is back inside this beautiful old Queenslander. Available every Wednesday to Sunday, the crowd-favourite berry-filled pastry is one for the books.
Combining European techniques with the nostalgia of the Ekka, Albion’s authentic bakery and deli is keeping the festive spirit alive this week with a strawberry cruffin. Filled with homemade whipped cream, each bite of this is practically magic!
Take the sweet tastes and whimsical fun of the Ekka, put it into a glass, and you have The Terrace’s sophisticated Strawberry Pavilion cocktail made with strawberry gin, rhubarb and sherry, and topped with a white chocolate lollipop. Or head on down to the Belle Epoque patisserie and treat yourself to their Ekka-inspired cheesecake, housed in a golden chocolate cup, coated in crunchy wafer flakes, and topped with a mini strawberry mousse popsicle, and dollops of luscious cream.
