Winter Racing Carnival is fast approaching and if you’re a little panicked about what to wear, have no fear! In anticipation for the 5 events of the carnival, we spoke to race wear blogger and Fashion on The Field expert, Milano Imai for the all the fashion advice to get you hitting the track with style. Some say, the best part of the races is dressing up to the nines, however, it can be stressful planning your outfits. Making sure you’re nailing the theme and meeting racing guidelines can be a taxing ordeal, but it doesn’t have to be. Milano Imai has been an avid racegoer for multiple years, entering and judging Fashions on The Field across Australia and internationally. Her extensive race day knowledge is highlighted on her blog and Facebook community group that thousands of race day fans subscribe to.
Safe to say, Milano is our go-to gal when it comes to all things racing fashion, check out what she said about each event below!
It’s all about the bold and the beautiful for this race day! We love this theme for the frivolity and fun we can incorporate into our winter styling. Although we love deep and moody tones, shaking things up with bright colours will be a feast for the eyes at the race track. Embracing winter brights and stepping out in a bold yellow power suit is bound to turn heads. This season we’re also predicting magenta pink and electric blue will also be popular race day colours. Balance the look with elegant and monochrome accessories. Sorted!
With a fashion forward theme, this is the day you can really let your creativity soar. As traditional race attire rules are little more relaxed, feel free to experiment and add your own individuality to your outfit. We love the idea of mixing it up with accessories for this day. Swap out the traditional gloves and hats for something a little more edgy. Hair clips are one of the biggest accessory trends for this season and we predict they will be a popular millinery choice for this day as well!
Incorporating some glitz and glam is perfect for this embellishment themed day. Sequins, beading, lace or embossed fabrics are great options. It’s all about embracing the finer details for this day, so make sure you pay particular attention to your fabrics and embellishments whether it be in your garments or accessories. We’re loving the art-deco vibes of this outfit! Some Great Gatsby glamour is perfect for KIRIN Stakes Day!
Celebrate your girly side for this race day with florals, soft tones and elegant silhouettes. Embrace those traditional feminine styles and romantic colours for this day. We’re loving the colours in this Thurley dress, adding a wintery edge to the theme. Although we love a floral headpiece for Ladies Day, a pastel pink fedora could also be a fabulous and feminine option, if flowers aren’t quite your cup of tea. Finish with some soft, 1950s curls in your hair for a lavish, ladylike look.
As the finale to the racing carnival, Stradbroke Day is your time to go out with a bang! Black and white is an inherently classic and glamourous theme, and the pops of red add to that old Hollywood style. We’re loving this Sass&Bide set as the lines and stars inspire a slightly American vibe, which we love pairing with a western style neck scarf and ankle boot. This stunning, pearl trimmed boater by Meg Rafter Millinery is perfect to finish the look!
