Our Top 5 Favourite Fashion Moments From The Paris Olympics
Sports? We're just here for the fashion
The Paris Olympics have begun and the fashion capital of the world has shown us exactly why they deserve the title. As the athletes made their way down the Seine in a boat parade during the opening ceremony, it had us imagining how Brisbane (and the Brown Snake) will flourish when the eternal flame comes down under. Would the athletes arrive in a procession of CityCats and KittyKats? Could be iconic.
The involvement from French fashion houses throughout the Games so far has the fashion community in a stranglehold. Aya Nakamura, Lady Gaga and Axelle Saint-Cirel (who left the world captivated with her rendition of the French national anthem atop the Grand Palais) all wore custom Dior for their performances and in the rain no less. For its billing as premier sponsor at the Games, luxury group LVMH invested a reported 150 million Euros, and boy did it show.
The Parisian savoir-faire was celebrated as performers skilfully navigated the ever-worsening weather, but it was the athletes who stole our hearts (and our will to wear anything except luxury athleisure). Sport is first when it comes to the Games, but the fashion moments? Top of the medal tally.
Scroll for our fave five fashion moments from the Paris participants.
Simone Biles
The comeback queen of the Games never misses (literally or figuratively) and the star-spangled USA gymnastics costume is giving cowgirl core in the best way possible.
Team Haiti
The masterful layering, suit detailing and unique silhouettes… say less. Where can we put in an order?
Team Mongolia
Anyone else think the Mongolian uniform was AI-generated when all of the Olympic uniforms were revealed? It’s just TOO good.
Nyjah Huston
The brief: Olympic uniform but make it street. Maybe it’s the tattoos, but Team USA skateboarder nailed the balance between performance & personality in his bronze medal-winning kit.
The medal bearers
Forget tennis core, the medal bearers are channelling golf core and we’re here for it.
