The love-child of ballet core and quiet luxury, the humble ballet flat has re-emerged and is A-lister approved.

Comfy, chic, and convenient, there isn’t much to not love about the simple ballet flat. If you’re a corporate girly, you’ve probably been sporting these shoes for your work commute and have been waiting for them to receive the clout they deserve. If, like me, these were a style staple back in your youth, the day has arrived that they are back, baby! Spotted on the tootsies of our favourite it-girls, it’s safe to say the ballet flat is back in our shoe rotation.

Back in the ballet flat’s O.G. hay day, a simple bow or fun colour was as creative as the unassuming shoe got. But as remerging fashions often do, the ballet flat has come back with a major upgrade. From mesh to bedazzled to buckled, the ballet flat can truly lend itself to any occasion.

If you like what you see, but aren’t sure how to incorporate them into your shoe rotation, we’ve thrown together a guide on how you can leap and twirl into this fun yet sophisticated trend.

Everyday wear

Known for their functionality and comfort, ballet flats are the perfect everyday shoe to keep by the door. Ditch the sneakers and throw these on with your favourite denim or runaround dress – there you have it, you’ve elevated a simple ‘fit! To achieve this effortless look, opt for a simple, plain flat in a block colour, whether that be a chic black or a poppy red.

Dress it up

Despite being the perfect go-to slip on, ballet flats shouldn’t be overlooked for dressier occasions. With an array of jazzed-up options now on offer – including mesh, rhinestones and buckles – they are the perfect option for a sleek dress or chic trouser. Throw them on for a dressy dinner or slip them on for your corporate 9-5; this bedazzled take on a classic shoe lends itself to many occasions.

Get girly

To fully embrace the feminine origin of the trend, ballet flats truly belong to the girly girls – think pink, satin and strappy! Slip on your fave mini skirt, add some chunky white socks, and you can live out your ballerina dreams.
