The Olympics Fashion Commentary You Didn’t Know You Needed

Go for gold

By Chloe Hill | 8th August 2024

As the Paris Olympics come into their final days, we’ve made a revelation. While the sport is great, and we’ve felt legitimate anxiety during some of the best moments (watched during replays not real-time, let’s be real 3am is not realistic) – the facts are, a medal is only won once, but Olympic fashion wins forever on the internet.

Aside from a TikTok fyp full of Simone Biles fan accounts, the main thing drawing our attention on the feed? The Olympic Fashion. We agree, the Australian Olympic uniform leaves a bit to be desired. Some modernised tailoring, a few more linen options, and some athleisure luxe sporting pieces wouldn’t go amiss. Here’s an idea – Dissh and P.E. Nation as fashion partners for LA28.

Qualms aside, the Australians are giving us so many fashion moments in Paris – we’ve rounded them up for you below:

 Gritty in Pink

The girl who made history as Australia’s youngest Olympic champion at 14 years old, but stole our hearts in her hot pink skate gear. It’s time to dust off your sibling’s old skateboard from the garage, it’s not brat summer –  it’s skate summer.

Nail Check

While we’ve been sticking to the darker block colours in the office of late, the girls in green and gold are giving us mega nail envy. Or maybe it’s the seasonal depression when Brisbane plummets below 20º. Madame Freestyle, Brisbane’s Ariane Titmus has us chomping at the bit to try this citrus shade. If you needed any more convincing, Reddit is claiming the nails give her an unfair advantage – so why wouldn’t you give bright lemon a go?

 The Artistic Swimming Team

Their costumes are giving vintage Ken Done artwork meets modern-day Camilla and we couldn’t be prouder to come from the land down under.

 July in Paris

We came for the cream luggage, with gold hardware and soft leather handles (inspired by the Melbourne 1956 Australian Olympic Team uniforms no less) but stayed for the socks with slides. Ellie Beer, the athletics star who broke her 200m PB in Paris, takes the custom July suitcase for a test drive, in style.

A Modern Twist On 80s Layering

They did the leotard layering back then, and our local lady Mariefe has brought it to Paris 2024. The simple layering took the beach volleyball bikinis from predictably contentious (we’ll leave that discussion for later) to très chic.
