10 Strawberry Sundae-Inspired Dishes For A Berry Good Ekka Holiday
The Ekka is back and better than ever! Ask any Queenslander and they’ll tell you that the real highlight of the show isn’t the cute baby animals, show stopping show bags, or exhilarating rides. It’s the strawberry sundaes, baby!
Of course, fairgoers aren’t the only ones wanting to get their strawberry sundae fix. The Brisbane dining scene is also taking cues and dishing up an array of strawberry sundae-inspired dishes to sweeten your day. From waffle stacks to jam-packed croissants (literally), here’s where you can get a berry good taste of the Ekka magic.

From cruffins to cronuts, Darvella Patisserie is known for dishing up an epic Ekka-inspired creation! While they’re yet to reveal what croissant special will be available on this public holiday, they’ve been dropping clues on their Instagram and we’re already drooling.
The westside’s much-loved cafe and Thai kitchen is bringing back their popular strawberry sundae-inspired croissants. Available for the entire month of August, it’s sweet flaky goodness at its finest.
Arguably Queensland’s most popular strawberry jam, Lang’s is bringing back their deliciousness in a jar. You can get your hands on That Strawberry Jam online, in-store across Brisbane, or at the Ekka itself. Plus, all profits will be donated to The Common Good and Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.
King Street Bakery
Home to some of Brisbane’s most delectable baked goods, King Street Bakery are pulling out all the stops this year, with a decadent strawberry sundae croissant. Filled with a white chocolate buttercream and strawberry compote, then topped with fresh strawberries and a lashing of more buttercream, it’s a must-try before you pop to the show.
This inner-city roasterie is feeling extra sweet for the Ekka! Alongside their four stalls at the show, Kuhl-Cher is serving up a strawberry waffle stack topped with fairy floss, fresh strawberries, and ice cream to boot.
Okay so it might not technically be limited to the Ekka, but an honourable mention goes to Agnes’ strawberry rhubarb jam and earl grey tea doughnuts. It’s delivering that berry goodness all year round!
SK Steak & Oyster
Feeling a little extra bouj this Ekka season? SK Steak & Oyster’s strawberry cake is the indulgent way to get your strawberry and cream fix, perfectly paired with a martini (or two, or three).
Stone & Wood Brewery
If you prefer to quench your thirst with some strawberry goodness, Stone & Wood has you sorted! They’re teaming up with The Common Good to bring back their crowd-favourite Sundae Strawberry Kisses brew – a limited-edition strawberry and cream sour. Get your sip at the Fortitude Valley brewery or at the show’s Craft Beer Alley from 6 August.
Back by popular demand, the sweet mavens at Jocelyn’s Provisions are upping the ante with a trio of Ekka-inspired delights for you to take your pick. Kicking off with their ever-popular strawberry and cream cruffin, you’ll want to get your hands on these ASAP.
Celebrate the Ekka on the southside at Emporium Hotel, with their show-day inspired cocktails and desserts. Take to the skies at the Terrace on level 21 for the Strawberry Pavillion cocktail made with strawberry gin, sparkling rosé, myrtle, and gum leaf. Or sip on down to the Piano Bar for their Sideshow Alley cocktail, featuring Beefeater Pink Gin, Mozart White, peach liquor, strawberry milk, hazelnut foam, and topped with fairy floss and dried rose petals. Fancy yourself a sweet tooth? Then indulge in Belle Epoque’s Strawberry Fortress filled with strawberry madeleine, pistachio bavarois, strawberry compote, and pistachio meringue. Delish!
