West Village Scores A Minimalist Sea-To-Table Japanese Restaurant From A Hospo Icon
Let’s roll
Fans of sushi and sake are in for a treat with the latest addition at West Village’s South Pavilion. Introducing Ippin Japanese Dining – the modern yet classic Japanese restaurant taking an elevated approach to the fare.
The sprawling 140-seater tucked up on the second floor above The Common is helmed by Kenny Lee, the restaurateur and owner of Sydney’s revered Kuon Omakase, Allta, and Funda restaurants. His first Brisbane location, Ippin’s menu spans across lunch and dinner, featuring traditional seafood starters, sides, mains, and desserts, using select products imported from Japan. With your choice of 12 or 24 pieces, dig into sea-to-table sashimi or sushi of the day from the raw bar before delving into more substantial plates including toothfish, duck breast, wagyu beef, prawn, coral trout, and Kenny’s crowd-favourite, popcorn lobster.
Embracing a minimalist and traditional approach to Japanese decor, hints of timber, brickwork, and grand windows pay homage to Ippin’s historic West Village neighbour, Peters Ice Cream Factory. Ahead of the grand opening on 18 April, guests can indulge in an exclusive $118 chef’s menu highlighting the talent of the team until 17 April, and with neighbours such as Yamas Greek + Drink and Kürtősh, Ippin is certainly in good company at West Village.
