Get cosy with Brisbane’s best mulled wine
Mulled wine has to be the best wintery soul-warming drink around, so we’ve put together the best bars to get cosy with a glass (or two) in Brisbane.
Brisbane’s winter may not be ‘cold’ to other city’s standards, but we can all agree it gets a little too chilly for comfort. Does curling up in your blankets in the morning and only having interest to venture to Brisbane bars with heaters and indoor seating at night sound familiar?
We’ve got your next warm winter treat sorted in the form of a hot, steamy, seductive glass of the good stuff; mulled wine (and mulled cider!).
Get yourself front and centre at these Brisbane bars with mulled wine (and mulled cider), as they dish up the best steamin’ drinks all winter long:
Escobar | New Farm | If they’re open; they serve it
This Brisbane bar is great for a suburban social catch-up, with live music on the reg and a horde of board games always at arms length. Their mulled wine is spiked with sweet cherry and Baileys and includes cinnamon, cloves, oranges, lime zest and fresh thyme and lemon juice. While you can buy it individually, you can also share it with your posse in a retro teapot with individual teacups! And they promise to have it available any time of the day or night you walk through the door.
Kerbside | Fortitude Valley | Friday, Saturday, Sunday
If you can’t cook the sweet red nectar yourself on the stove (or in your rice cooker), this place will provide the goods while making you feel right at home. Kerbside has plenty of comfy couches, blankets, heaters and hot tasty bar treats to go with your warm glass of mulled wine in hand. They create theirs with a Shiraz Cabernet, brandy and a house mix of spices.
Soleil/Bacchus | South Brisbane | Daily from 10am
Soleil Pool Bar has unveiled five winter cocktails that will persuade you to head out this winter, with their Bacchus Mulled Wine taking our fancy. Appreciate the winter air on the rooftop terrace with a mulled wine in hand. Their twist on the classic includes Bacchus GSM, hot water, sugar syrup, a pinch of cloves, orange peel, and a cinnamon stick; served hot of course!
Black Bear Lodge | Fortitude Valley | Thursday, Friday, Saturday
The cosy lodge-style furnishings, live music performances and the ample seating space at the front of the venue should be enough to visit this Brisbane bar in winter alone; but Black Bear Lodge has done one better in our books with their cinnamon spiced and citrus infused mulled wine.
Kettle and Tin | Paddington | Nightly from 6pm
Want to enjoy a glass of mulled wine on a weeknight (a sneaky red after work surely never hurt anyone)! Kettle and Tin offer their hot, hot, heavenly-spiced mulled wine seven days a week from 6pm. Come in for a sit-down meal or just a sneaky knock-off wine-down, with their concoction consisting of the red stuff, triple sec, brandy, chai spices, cloves and fresh orange juice.
Emporium | Fortitude Valley | Nightly from 4pm
Like all amazing mulled wine recipes, Emporium’s bar manager Zac Hay took inspiration for their recipe from a mulled wine at a German Christmas Market. The ‘E’ mulled wine uses a French Merlot, house-infused with star anise, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla pods, orange and lemon zest. It’s even served with a house-made mulled wine jelly on the side. Heaven!
Elixir | Fortitude Valley | Weekends only
If you’re headed to the rooftop at Elixir over the weekend, you’ll want to wrap your mitts around their mulled wine to get toasty. They’ve combined spiced Trinidad rum with Shiraz and topped it off with additions of cinnamon, ginger and lemon zest for a simple, steamy treat.
… AND mulled cider. Yep, it’s a thing!
Archive | West End | Friday, Saturday and Sunday
For the first time ever, Archive Beer Boutique will be serving up mulled cider from now until the end of August. The Mulled Batlow Apple Cider has a spice explosion of cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon, aniseed and vanilla, with a sweet mango and golden syrup silkiness to finish with the tangy apple cider and hints of spiced rum.
Bitter Suite | New Farm | Open til close, everyday
So we know Bitter Suite does mulled wine, but did you know they also do mulled cider? Better yet, they’ve made it into a delicious drinkable dessert; Hot apple spiced cider topped with whipped cream and caramel sauce. We don’t know how many we could drink without going into a sugar-coma, but we’re keen to try our luck at more than one.
Greystone Bar and Cellar | South Bank | Only in July
It can get a bit chilly by the river, but if you head to Grey Street you’ll be in for a warm surprise at Greystone Bar and Cellar. They’ve recently introduced hot mulled cider to their menu, infused with cinnamon, cloves, star anise and citrus fruits to create harmonious layers of flavour.
So while you mull over this list… You know where to find us!
