Micro-breweries took over in 2018, feeding our obsession with all things micro. So, it’s fitting that in 2019 we take things up a notch with the first micro-winery to open in our beautiful city since 1860! Little did we know, Brisbane used to be a hub of vineyards, spanning across the well-known areas of Kingsford Smith Drive, Indooroopilly and Mitchelton. It only took us 160 years, but we finally got ourselves a modern local winery. City Winery Brisbane is the hero we’re referring to and we just want to say that we’re so ready for this.

Sourcing grapes from all across Australia’s key growing regions, no longer will we have to travel 2+ hours for a winery experience. Halleluiah! Located in the heart of Fortitude Valley, their newly converted warehouse on Wandoo Street is the perfect mix of rustic tradition and modernised practice. With reserved spaces for private functions and events catering up to 150 people, City Winery is bound to be in high demand now that door has finally swung open. The modern Australian restaurant is perfectly complementing the Aussie method of winemaking, ensuring seamless vino pairings with your meal. If you’re after something a little more exciting you can even dine in the Winery’s cellar, surrounded by barrels of liquid gold. The winery will double as a function space outside of yearly vintage times.

While head Winemaker Dave Cush will be crafting these wines on Wandoo Street, you can also pop into their neighbouring little brother winery, Carl’s on Wyandra St, Newstead. Café by day, cellar door by night, their small batch artisan wine, Gerler is a connoisseur’s delight. We are so ready for urban wineries to take over!
