An Iconic Lebanese Restaurant Is Getting A Luxe Makeover With Elevated Levantine Dining
Frequent flyers to the global hotpot that is the South Bank dining scene will be familiar with Baba Ganouj – the resident Lebanese restaurant that began as a small cafe and take-away joint before growing to a modest establishment on Little Stanley Street. And now the crowd-favourite is expanding once again to a luxe 200-seat destination inspired by their ancestral roots.
Relocating a few doors down, the new Baba Ganouj will feature elements of stone, natural tiles, and timber batten ceilings, complemented by decorative pottery and arched doorways in the restaurant. The bar area will showcase a curved front counter and bronze arch back bar, while the outside dining area will complete the culturally rich ambience in hanging pendants, olive trees, and long communal tables.
A new menu will coincide with Baba Ganouj’s reopening, encapsulating Lebanese cuisine’s rich history, unique flavours, and meticulous preparation. From handcrafted pastries and dishes like sambousek, kibbeh, and fatayer, to slow-cooked delicacies like the hand-rolled grape vine leaves of spiced rice served with braised lamb leg, the menu offers a diverself selection to cater for all dietary requirements and religious preferences.
Baba Ganouj fans, there’s no need for alarm; their familiar signature dishes will also be on the cards, like their mixed shawarma with chicken, lamb, and Adana skewers served with pickles, toum, and Saj bread.
Wash it all down with a tipple from their signature cocktail list, packed with refreshing and exotic flavours, or browse their extensive selection of local and international wines and beers, designed to pair. Your crew can also take advantage of their sharing cocktails, perfect for 2-3 friends who are down for a good time.
Crafted by Space Cubed Design Studio (who also had a hand in Donna Chang, Boom Boom Room, and Bear Boy Espresso), the relaxed atmosphere makes for an elevated take on laidback dining, while basking in the warmth of genuine hospitality. On weekends, you’ll be whisked away with mesmerising belly dance performances and the rhythmic beats of DJs on deck, as well as shisha sessions after 9 pm. Now that’s what we call a feast for the soul.
Baba Ganouj will relaunch on Thursday 13 July at the corner of Tribune Street and Little Stanley Street, South Brisbane.
