The Style Recap: July Roundup Edition

This month in fashion

By Ella Passfield | 4th August 2025

July: the month of brutally cold winter mornings, escapism via the new season of The Summer I Turned Pretty, or for the lucky ones – real escapism to the sun‑soaked beaches of Mallorca.

If you’re anything like me, your eyes are on the other hemisphere, with an Instagram feed full of vacations in Europe or even the Hamptons. But don’t sleep on what is happening in Australia. Gracie Abrams took the stage in an Australian designed gown, Sofia Richie Grainge enjoyed her holiday in Sir., MECCA announced the opening of its new Melbourne flagship this month, and The New Trend confirmed a Brisbane store debut in September.

Many of the trends we are seeing overseas are easy to replicate right here in winter — if you style them right.

Just Dropped: Collabs, Campaigns & Collections

Glossier x Magnolia Bakery

Glossier dropped it sweetest collab to date: the Banana Pudding Balm Dotcom. Inspired by Magnolia Bakery’s cult favourite dessert (a Carrie Bradshaw classic), this limited edition balm serves up all the iconic vanilla and banana sweetness you know and love.

Rhode Summer

Miss Hailey Bieber – she’s iconic. And now she’s the face of beauty’s hottest trend: Lemon Girl Summer. You’ve undoubtably spotted those bright yellow pouches all over your FYP because Rhode unveiled their latest launch, the Lemontini Peptide Lip Tint. It’s not the soft butter yellow we were seeing back in May – this time it’s a bright, zesty yellow that is impossible to miss.

SPOTTED: Celebs, Style & Off-Duty Moments

Gracie Abrams took the stage in Toronto for her Secret of Us Tour wearing emerging Australian label, Courtney Zheng. The Panelled Silk Georgette Gown was first shown at Courtney Zheng’s Australian Fashion Week debut within the Frontier presentation.

Meanwhile, Olivia Rodrigo traded the stage for the stands at Wimbledon. Wearing vintage Ralph Lauren, Olivia Rodrigo proves gingham and plaid isn’t going anywhere.

The Summer I Turned Pretty star, Lola Tung leaned into the season’s scarf trend, tying a Coach scarf at her waist during the TSIP Season 3 premiere tour.

FASHION TRENDS

Double Denim

The Canadian tuxedo has arguably been the biggest resurgence of the season. Once considered an 80s fashion crime, we have seen the rise of the double denim co-ords this winter. It doesn’t have to be that classic blue either. White denim is impossibly chic and a black denim jacket with a black mini skirt is so glam. Follow these styling tips and see why this is a trend you’ll want to jump aboard.

How to style double denim?

What makes the Canadian tuxedo so versatile is how easy the fit is to replicate. The formula for a chic double denim outfit is easy. Pick a top, pick a bottom, and make sure it’s denim. Whether a jean or a skirt, a shirt or vest, a jacket or a trench, you can pull it all together.

For a casual look, slightly unbutton a oversized denim shirt and throw on a pair of boyfriend jeans. Slip on a kitten heel and accessorise with chunky gold hoops and a statement necklace.

For office appropriate attire, opt for a fitted denim shirt tucked into straight leg jeans in a deeper shade of indigo. Pair with a suede boots or a ballet flat to truely see you through every season.

Where to buy double denim?

All About Eve has just launched their new collection celebrating the power and versatility of denim. Featuring signature timeless styles such as denim shorts and jackets, these are pieces you can wear whether you are wintering in Australia or summering in Europe.

Scarf Trend

Spotted on stars like Sabrina Carpenter and Gracie Abrams, the scarf has become the lightweight staple that has stolen the spotlight this July. And yes, it’s winter, but we are not talking about your favourite chunky knit scarf. This season, it’s all about colourful silk scarfs adding a pop of colour to an otherwise rugged-up winter look.

How to style the scarf trend?

Our editor, Kiri Johnston, shared all her favourite ways to style the scarf trend in 2025. From tying it at the hip to the revival of the bandana, a scarf proves to be the easiest way to elevate any outfit.

Where to buy into the scarf trend?

The Iconic is a go-to destination for the season’s big trends. Start your collection with a statement 70x70cm style, like this one by Oroton, a classic neckerchief like this one by Trenery, or opt for a skinny scarf like this one by Coach, which can easily be worn as a belt or elevate a handbag strap.

Layered Shirts

Layered shirts – a fad from the late-90s to early-2000s reappeared this July. And honestly, it makes perfect sense giving extra layers for winter warmth and adding depth to winter fits.

The Row spotlighted this look in its Summer 2025 collection, pairing oversized boxy tees with long sleeves. We saw the trend take over Brisbane when Five By Flynn sold out of the Women’s Layered Long Sleeve Top during the recent pop up.

How to style the layered top?

It’s all about the contrast. Keep it subtle with a cream top over a white shirt, or play with necklines – layer a v-neck over a crew neck to create depth. For a true 90s moment layer a black cami over a white baby tee in homage to Clueless.

Where to buy the layered top?

Start with office favourite Five By Flynn layered long sleeve with the asymmetrical neckline. Or play with colour with Incu Collection Double Layer Long Sleeve Top in a rich burgundy.

BEAUTY TRENDS

Butter Skin

Winter makes that effortless summer glow hard to come by, but this July, the Butter Skin trend has made that healthy glow so easily obtainable. The look is all about achieving a smooth, creamy complexion. Deeply hydrating skincare and creamy textured makeup is at the forefront of the trend.

Our top picks:

Australian brand Strange Luxury is leading the change with its Barrier Balance Cream, a rich yet lightweight jelly-cream designed for skincare minimalists. Packed with Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, Shea Butter and the brand’s signature SL8™ Blend, it nourishes the skin barrier leaving you feeling smoother and buttery soft.

Spritz it

The Euro gloom: you’re back in Brisbane, settling into your 9-5 or start hitting the books at uni. How to escape? Simple – with a spritz of a perfume. Just one mist can transport you back to the beaches of Greece or the streets of Paris.

Our top scents:

SŚAINT draws influence from travel and memory. The fragrance Holiday feels like Euro summer in a bottle with top notes of neroli giving a citrusy freshness and base notes of coconut water reminiscent of coastal walks and late night gelato.

Hair gloss

Whether is Sabrina Carpenter’s bouncy blonde blowout or Dakota Johnson’s effortless shiny texture, there is one thing in common – gloss. This winter, give your hair a refresh. Gloss serums keep your hair healthy-looking and maintaining the desired reflective shine.

Our top serums:

The new arrival of the Gloss Absolu Glaze Drops by Kerastase is formulated to restore moisture, add radiance, and smooth frizz for that glossy, polished finish. Pair it with your favourite growth serums or nourishing hair oils to keep your hair shining all winter long.
