Mini Golf, But Make It Art: SWINGERS Lands At Brisbane Powerhouse This Summer

Mini golf, but make it art

By Kiri Johnston | 31st October 2025

Mini golf just got an art-world makeover, and it’s teeing off right here in Brisbane. From 10 January to 1 March 2026, Brisbane Powerhouse will transform into a surreal nine-hole playground for Swingers – The Art of Mini Golf, a bold new exhibition that’s part art show, part interactive course, and 100% fun.

Created by an all-female lineup of international artists: including Miranda July (USA), Kaylene Whiskey (AUS), Saeborg (JPN), Nabilah Nordin (AUS), Delaine Le Bas (UK), and Natasha Tontey (ID),  Swingers turns mini golf into a canvas of creativity and rebellion. Expect latex animal tails for putters, candy-coloured sculptures, square balls, and imaginative installations that blur the line between play and performance.

Originally developed by Melbourne’s RISING Festival and curated by Grace Herbert, Swingers celebrates the radical roots of mini golf — first created by 19th-century Scottish women banned from “real” golf courses. Today, their spirit of defiance lives on through this vibrant fusion of art and play. It also marks the first major project under new Brisbane Powerhouse CEO and Artistic Director Louise Bezzina, who describes Swingers as “daring, participatory, and deeply creative.” So, whether you’re an art lover, a casual putter, or simply chasing a good time, Swingers, The Art of Mini Golf is Brisbane’s must-see exhibition of the summer.
