The two have announced a long-term partnership that brings together luxury hospitality and world-class performance through immersive dining, theatrical cocktails, exclusive hotel stays and cultural experiences designed to take ballet beyond the stage.
Leading the collaboration is ‘A Poisoned Court’, a one-night-only theatrical dinner inspired by Queensland Ballet’s critically acclaimed production of Hamlet. But it’s just the opening act of a broader partnership that will continue to evolve with future productions and exclusive guest experiences.
As the Official Hotel Partner of Queensland Ballet, W Brisbane will become the company’s home away from home, inviting visitors and locals to experience ballet in unexpected ways. The partnership also signals a new chapter for Queensland Ballet under recently appointed Artistic Director Ivan Gil-Ortega, reflecting a shared ambition to introduce the artform to new audiences while strengthening Brisbane’s cultural landscape.
Launching the partnership is A Poisoned Court, taking over The Lex on Saturday, August 1. Inspired by Queensland Ballet’s acclaimed production of Hamlet, the immersive evening begins where the ballet ends, transporting guests beyond the theatre and into the world of Elsinore.
The experience opens with a funeral procession through W Brisbane’s darkened corridors, where mourning bells and lantern-lit passageways set the tone before guests arrive inside a gothic-inspired dining room. Dressed in black for the King’s funeral, they’ll gather around two communal tables as Queensland Ballet dancers perform an exclusive live pas de deux from Hamlet throughout the evening.
Executive Chef John Kennedy has curated a five-course menu inspired by Shakespeare’s tragic tale, with each course unfolding alongside the story before culminating in a dramatic “poisoned chalice” finale.
The announcement comes as Queensland Ballet expands its presence at Brisbane’s new Glasshouse Theatre, with W Brisbane set to play an ongoing role in extending the experience beyond performance through hospitality, storytelling and exclusive guest access. And ‘A Poisoned Court’ is only the beginning.
Throughout the partnership, Living Room Bar will introduce a rotating menu of cocktails inspired by Queensland Ballet’s current productions, beginning with Hamlet. There’s The Poison, combining butterfly pea tea, Ink Gin and green apple soda that transforms colour as it’s poured, alongside The Ghost, crafted with clarified cherry juice, fat-washed cacao and vanilla Elyx vodka, complete with an edible candle guests extinguish before taking their first sip.
The Lex will also launch a new two-course truffle menu for $99, giving theatre-goers an elevated pre-show dining option before performances.
Guests can also expect exclusive accommodation packages, dedicated offers and never-to-be-repeated access to Brisbane’s creative community, all designed to celebrate the city’s thriving arts scene.
For those wanting to extend the experience, A Night at the Ballet package starts from $777 per night and includes an overnight stay in a Standard Room, breakfast for two at The Lex, valet parking, two ballet-inspired cocktails at Living Room Bar, a bespoke in-room welcome amenity and two tickets to Hamlet.
