A Spectacular Light And Sound Festival Is Taking Over Brisbane City After Dark

By Jazmyne Purdew | 19th November 2025Brisbane is about to sparkle like never before as The Star Brisbane unveils Sono Lumo, a free 10-night celebration of immersive magic at Queens Wharf Precinct this December. Running from Wednesday 10 November to Sunday 21 December (closed Mondays and Tuesdays), this year’s festival promises a dazzling wonderland with a twist, an enchanting Steampunk-themed adventure for the whole family.
What to expectEach evening from 6 PM to 10 PM, the precinct and riverfront will come to life with DJs, live entertainment, pop-up bars, festive eats, and three spectacular hero sound and light performances. This year’s theme, Steampunk City, transforms the precinct into four whimsical zones where Victorian-era invention collides with modern innovation – think quirky gadgets, whirling gears, and plenty of festive magic.
The showstopper? The Star Brisbane itself becomes the backdrop for an electrifying mix of fireworks, animations, and even snow, all perfectly synced to a soundtrack curated by local artist Tom Thum. Catch the spectacle at one of three seatings each night on Brisbane’s riverfront. And after the show, continue the fun and wander through three immersive zones.
Festive Foundry – DPI CourtyardStep into a playful wonderland filled with immersive holiday magic. At the heart of the courtyard hovers a seven-metre inflatable airship bar, hovering above the cocktail hotspot, serving innovative drinks and bites that are as fun as they are festive. Perfect for sipping, snacking, and snapping photos.
Spirit Works Square – Queens Wharf PlazaAt the beating heart of Steampunk City, the action never stops. Gears turn, lights glow, and roving performances keep the night buzzing. Sip on warming drinks, enjoy seasonal treats, and wander through interactive installations that bring the holiday magic to life.
The Commissariat – The Commissariat Façade Follow the glowing streets to the heritage-listed storehouse where festive animations will dance across the façade, creating a magical finale to your evening stroll.
