SHAKING THINGS UP

Is anyone else feeling that certain energy in the air, and in need of an excuse to plan another night out with friends? Luckily, our favourite national holiday, one that stretches over a whole week (because something this good shouldn’t be limited to just one day), is almost here. That’s right, Margarita Week is just around the corner.
There’s something about a margarita that feels like summer. It’s holiday energy in liquid form, the kind of cocktail that is universally adored. And in a city that does long lunches, rooftop golden hours, and riverfront flirtation so effortlessly, Margarita Week might just take the crown as the best holiday of them all. Whether you’re devoted to a classic Tommy’s, flirting with a chilli-infused situation, or ordering the frozen version for the pure drama of it all, this is the week to lean in.
So naturally, we’re getting into the best spots in Brisbane to celebrate properly.
Howard Smith Wharves
No matter your preference, you’ll find your perfect margarita at Howard Smith Wharves. And why stop at one? Work your way up (or down) the Wharves, where venues will be serving signature faves with a twist. Spend a sunny afternoon at Mr Percival’s with one of their crowd-favourite Tommy’s Margs in hand, then sip the evening away at Stan’s Lounge with their signature Dragon Margarita. Other participating venues include Felon’s Brewing Co, Fellini’s Trattoria, and CIAO.
And foodies, fret not – the festivities go beyond the drinks menu. Bespoke Mexican food festival La Mexicana just so happens to run concurrently with Margarita Week (hooray!), and it‘s bringing the chefs of Michelin-guide–recommended taqueria El Vilsito to work alongside culinary teams at the Wharves. One of Mexico City’s most sought-after taquerias, El Vilsito is bringing its signature specialities to Brisbane, including tacos al pastor: marinated pork cooked on a vertical spit, thinly sliced, and served in corn tortillas. If it’s good enough for The New York Times, it’s good enough for us.

Fish Lane – March Into Margarita
Fish Lane is going full lime-glossed glamour this March with the return of March Into Margarita, a month-long takeover presented with Espolòn Tequila. From 1 March, South Brisbane’s coolest laneway transforms into a tequila-fuelled playground of salted rims, spicy twists, and DJ-lit Saturdays. The headline moment? The Margarita Trail on Saturday, 21 March (2 – 5 PM). For $95, there is a ticketed crawl kicking off at MidTown, winding through participating venues and finishing with a laneway party at Bar Brutus. Expect six margarita tokens, exclusive Espolòn pop-ups, limited-edition pours, plus pop-ups from Baja and Chu the Phat bringing tacos, flavour, and serious fiesta energy. Consider it your chicest excuse to bar-hop.
