
Break The Rules at HOTA’s Newest Exhibition Ken Done: No Rules

Expect bold strokes, unapologetic joy, and that instantly recognisable style that has cemented Done as one of Australia’s most loved artists. From beaches to landmarks, his work captures the spirit of Australia like no one else.
“There are no rules. And if there are rules, then you may as well break them” says Ken Done.
About the Exhibition
From now til February, more than 90 paintings will be on display at HOTA, Home of the Arts, on the Gold Coast. The collection showcases his iconic depictions of reefs, beaches, and coastlines, as well as rarely seen works from his private collection and exciting collaborations.
The majestic grandeur of Australia’s reefs, beaches and coastlines captured in his paintings have made Ken Done a household name. Highlights include the iconic Between the Flags and Reefy Dreams, capturing the essence of Australian coastal life.
Visitors can also enjoy an exclusive animation bringing Done’s iconic paintings to life. For the fashion lovers, garments from Done Zone, the 2023 collaboration between Ken Done and Australian fashion label Romance Was Born will also be on display.
A Longstanding Connection
“I’m very excited about the new show at HOTA” says Ken, who has a deep connection with the Gold Coast. Since the late 1980s, he has captured the essence of coastal life, exhibiting at his Art Gallery and Cafe on Orchid Avenue.
Curated in partnership with The Ken Done Gallery, Sydney, this is one of the biggest exhibitions of his work ever presented.
