Game On: Brisbane’s Major Sporting Venues Are Getting A Makeover

The rundown

By Victoria Lewis | 26th March 2025

Brisbane and its major sporting venues are getting a serious glow-up, so we’ve cut through the info overload to bring you the need-to-know updates.

First up, say hello to the future Brisbane Stadium – set to take over Victoria Park for the Olympics and beyond. This isn’t just a minor facelift; we’re talking a full-scale transformation.

And what about the Gabba?

While it’s still standing for now, it won’t be for much longer. After its final hoorah during the 2032 cricket competition, the Gabba will be demolished and reborn as an entertainment and housing precinct. It’s an exciting change, but let’s be real – the Gabba (and its beers) will be sorely missed. We’re not crying, you are.

But don’t panic, sports fans – our Brisbane Lions and Brisbane Heat will have a new home in the brand-new, 63,000-seat Brisbane Stadium. Phew!

Over in Spring Hill, the National Aquatic Centre will be making a splash at the Centenary Pool site, bringing world-class swimming facilities to the city.

And for the tennis lovers?

Get your skirts and sweatbands ready. Brisbane is set to hold down the fort for the 2032 Olympics tennis tournament, fending off Melbourne with a major revamp of the Queensland Tennis Centre, featuring a new 3,000-seat show court and 12 match courts. Anyone up for a set?

Oh, and show bag lovers – this one’s for you. The RNA Showgrounds is levelling up with a 20,000-seat outdoor arena, making the Ekka even bigger and better.

Long story short – Brisbane is bringing its A-game for 2032. Watch this space!
