Still think you need to cross the equator for a ski adventure? We’re here to convince you otherwise! Aussie ski fields can offer beautifully-groomed runs, chalet accommodation, and plenty of off-piste entertainment – all without needing to dust off your passport! Read on for our top picks of Australia’s ski season:

THREDBO | New South Wales

Taking design inspiration from a European skiing town, Thredbo Alpine Village features idyllic lodges, shops, and night-time entertainment. With 14 lifts and 50 ski runs, it boasts the steepest overall terrain of any Australian ski resort. On top of this, Thredbo has just invested a cool $6 million in the largest snow-making machine in the country. Powder guaranteed!

PERISHER | New South Wales

Nestled in the Snowy Mountains, Perisher was just awarded Australia’s Best Ski Resort at the 2016 World Ski Awards. The largest resort of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, Perisher is home to a whopping 47 lifts, to help you get up the mountain quick-sticks!

Snow newbies need not be intimidated by these stats – a generous 25 per cent of the runs at Perisher are marked at a beginner level, so you can build up your skills during your stay.

MT BULLER | Victoria

Just a three-hour drive out of Melbourne, Mt Buller is a handy pick for the weekend skier. With 22 lifts servicing 25 ski runs, this ski resort also provides plenty of tobogganing options for the kids.

With the new Snowfactory machine pumping out plenty of man-made powder to supplement overnight falls, you can be guaranteed a smooth morning run. Mt Buller also features some lush ski-in ski-out accommodation, for those who like to maximise their time on the slopes!

FALLS CREEK | Victoria

While Falls Creek is a little farther out of Melbourne (4.5 hours by car), this alpine resort includes a mammoth 92 runs, with 14 lifts to help access them all! Book for early August if you want to catch the Falls Creek Dog Sled Classic - an unmissable event for lovers of huskies and malamutes!

MT HOTHAM | Victoria

Is there anything more authentic then enjoying an après-ski beer that has been brewed with snowmelt? Not only is Mt Hotham home to 13 ski lifts and a massive 72 runs, it can also boast Australia’s highest brewery! Blizzard Brewery, located above the snowline at Mt Hotham, is the perfect spot to catch up with the crew after a solid day on the slopes.
