Montpellier

From Paris’ train station, Gare de Lyon, one quick ride can take you to France’s hub for southern travel: Montpellier, offering city life without the hassle. Upon arrival, the first place to visit is Montpellier’s main street. With a gorgeous view of Montpellier’s main square, Place de la Comédie, have a seat and enjoy the peaceful sounds of street performers and market vendors, a chocolat chaud in hand.

If you’re hungry after all your travels, the cuisine of Montpellier will have you wanting more. Les Bains de Montpellier dishes up delicious fusions of French and Mediterranean cuisine in one of the oldest restaurants in Montpellier. Stay

Tired from your visit? La Taverne De L’escuelle is a fantastic place to unwind after a day of swimming. Close to the sights, this quaint hotel and restaurant will continue the tranquillity. Find your bliss overlooking the heart of the village.

See

If the sights are what you’re chasing, look no further than Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert’s very own Cloister. The Saint-Guilhem Cloister has great historical significance for the commune and, with the picturesque landscape of gorges and waterfalls surrounding it, you’re bound to be enamoured by its beauty. Founded in 804 by Saint William, this landmark was sculpted for the local monastery in imitation of ancient Roman design.

Nîmes

For a more historical stay, nothing beats Nîmes. Founded in the sixth century, this historical city in the Occitanie region will leave you mesmerised. Known for its stunning Roman architecture, like the Arena of Nîmes, Nîmes is perfect for any history buff. Spend your days immersed in the diverse culture of Nîmes, soaking up that southern sun.

Just a short drive from Nîmes, Pont-du-Gard will have you living that Ancient Rome life at one of the world’s oldest aqueducts. Located over the river Gardon, the water under the Pont-du-Gard is a pristine escape. Make sure to bring your bikini and enjoy all the rich history that Pont-du-Gard has to offer.

Drink

With over 2000 years of history, the Costières de Nîmes vineyard specialises in elegant red wines, delicate whites, and fruity rosés. While visiting, you can sample the fragrant varieties they have on offer whilst learning about the history of the vineyard. Wine from Costières de Nîmes boasts authentic southern flavours with a distinct flavour that marks their origins – be sure to pick up a bottle or two to relish in the memory upon arriving home.

Cassis

Craving that saltwater breeze? Head to Cassis. Just south of Marseille, Cassis is beachside bliss bottled up in a town. Let those ocean waves soothe your spirit as holiday mode takes over.  A gelato in one hand, a wine in the other.

Cassis, south of France

Drink

With one of the oldest vineyards in France, Cassis specializes in white wines. If you’re after a fresh and lively wine, request Cassis’ specialty, the Clos Sainte Magdeleine Cassis Blanc. With notes of fresh spice and pepper, this wine is often not sold internationally due to the high demand it receives in Cassis; best to try it during your visit so you don’t miss out!

Eat

Due to Cassis’ location, their seafood is some of the freshest you will eat. At Le Bistro in Cassis, you will find a variety of seafood alongside classic Mediterranean dishes. Just ask for your favorite “poisson” and you are one bite away from a luxurious dining experience by the waterfront. Just ensure that you book ahead, as Le Bistro is very busy in the summer.
