This Himalayan Hotel Is The Epitome Of Your Getaway Dream

Beyond beautiful in Bhutan

Let’s be real, it’s only March, and I reckon it’s safe to say the majority of us are already craving a retreat and some serious R & R. Whether you need or want it, this place is about to stir up some serious wanderlust. Nothing sounds better than soothing your mind, body and soul in the midst of a hillside pine forest above a bubbling trout-filled stream. Sounds like a dream right? But, wait until you see the entirety of this hotel retreat.

Dreams become reality with Six Senses Bhutan, who recently opened their fifth and final lodge. The opening marks the completion of a five-lodge circuit that will take guests on a journey across the western and central valleys of the Himalayan Kingdom – a sight for the senses and the soul alike. Already on the bucket list for many, this may be the inspiration you need to take the leap to the heights of the Himalayas.

The hotel lies in Bumthang, considered to be the gateway to the east and the site of some of the country’s earliest settlements. The region is acknowledged as Bhutan’s spiritual heartland and is home to some of its most ancient monasteries and sacred monuments. The region is seriously something your Pinterest inspo board needs. Covered in pristine forests and meandering rivers, dotted with quaint villages, lush pastures and farming fields, the district is a sight to behold.

The hotel aesthetic is synonymous with the natural bliss of Bumthang, with subtle interiors which use a natural palette of earth tones and handwoven fabrics, while weathered timber floors, walls and ceilings boasting hand-carved details add an extra warmth to the lodge’s common areas.

Bumthang is the perfect place to holiday if you’re in need of some serious and personal TLC. Ideal for those looking to slow down and reconnect (aren’t we all!), the hotel promises to have even the most stressed guests returning home re-centered and re-energised. Guests will experience the effects of the calming “Om Mani Padme Hung” chant heard throughout the Kingdom resonating long after their departure.

The hotel features eight suites all including spacious balconies and calming forest views across the valley, with each room also offering generous living and dining areas along with private spa treatment facilities designed for ultimate rejuvenation.

Although relaxed and refreshing, Bumthang also plays host to some adrenaline pumping activities if you’re in need of a Zen break. Why not connect with the local region and culture with half and full-day treks to the valley’s most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites, hiking and biking through fields lined with prayer flags, visits to local villages and even a stop at the Red Panda brewery for a taste of icy-cold, locally brewed barley beer.

For dining, the bliss continues when heading down to the cozy fireside setting of the lodge’s signature restaurant, Tongtshang (offering hearty local dishes). The restaurant also houses an alfresco dining option where guests can enjoy a meal on the terrace while surrounded by pine trees growing around and even through its stone flooring.

Touted as a unique adventure which aims to deliver memories of a lifetime, Six Sense Bumthang is sure to fulfil your travel cravings with an experience that will be sure to give all your friends serious travel envy.

It’s been added to our list. What about yours?
