Want To Explore The Great Barrier Reef? Uber Now Offers Submarine Rides!

Uber’s taken underwater!

By Georgie Murray | 4th June 2019

Attention Queenslanders and adventurers alike! Uber is heading to new depths with an ultimate trip of a lifetime, but this time, it’s off the beaten track. Partnering with Tourism and Events Queensland, Uber is showcasing the world’s first underwater rideshare to experience the beautiful Great Barrier Reef. And, with a name like scUber, you know it’s going to be fun!

In an effort to combat climate change, scUber is a once-in-a-lifetime submarine trip aiming to support the ongoing protection and conservation of the world’s largest coral reef system. Matching the money spent on scUber, and splashing in with an additional $100K, Uber is donating scUber proceeds to citizens of Great Barrier Reef to help protect the reef and support several coral-saving initiatives. And whilst you’re submerged under water, scUber will be snapping photos of the coral reef to aid research and development so that we can keep it happy and healthy for future trips and generations. Coo coo ca choo!

Although it will cost a little above the cost of an average uber trip (unless surge is crazy), scUber will take you another on an hour-long trip through the Great Barrier Reef for $3,000. Sinking down to below to 30 metres, you’ll experience a breathtaking and unobstructed 180-degree view of one of the worlds natural wonders, home to thousands of reefs, islands, and species of fish. All of this in the privacy of your very own submarine! This adventure also includes a scenic helicopter ride for your return trip home.
