Runway To Tarmac: Rebecca Vallance Is Giving The Qantas Uniform A Brand New Look
First class fashion
By Ella Passfield | 8th September 2025Australian fashion designer, Rebecca Vallance, celebrated for her timeless elegance and flattering designs, has been appointed by Qantas to design new uniforms for the airline’s 17,500-plus employees.
Over the decades, Qantas uniforms have been ambassadors for both the airline and Australia. Iconic designers like Yves Saint Laurent and Emilio Pucci have shaped Qantas uniforms over its 105-year history. Pucci was the first in 1974, introducing vibrant blazers and psychedelic prints, while Saint Laurent followed in the 1980s with iconic blue suits and red accents. Now, Vallance joins this prestigious line up to make her mark on the 2027 uniform.
A natural collaboration
This isn’t Vallance’s first time working with Qantas. In 2023, Vallance was onboarded to create a limited-edition Business Class in-flight kit in celebration of the new flight route from Sydney to New York, via Auckland. Inspired by her own “Avenue Astoria” collection, the collaboration included navy pyjama set and an Art Deco-style amenity bag reflecting the glamour of New York’s iconic Waldorf Astoria hotel.
Building on that success, Vallance now returns to reimagine the airline’s entire uniform collection, ensuring it blends style, comfort, and functionality for crew and ground staff alike.
Designed for comfort
Earlier this year, Qantas surveyed over 17,500 employees, gathering feedback on comfort, durability and functionality, which will inform Vallance’s designs. She succeeds fellow Australian designer Martin Grant, who has shaped Qantas uniforms since 2013.
“It’s a huge responsibility, and I’m so thrilled to have it” says Vallance.
Rebecca Vallance is know for her sleek and minimalist style. Any piece from Rebecca Vallance, whether it be tailored or not, is sure to turn heads. Expect to see modern yet timeless designs that reflects both Qantas’ heritage and its forward vision.
Fashion at 35,000 feet
Uniform collaborations between airlines and famous designers are nothing new. These uniforms are some of the most visible statements in global travel and airline branding. Earlier this year, Air France partnered with Jacquemus on its exclusive “Le Pyjamas” for first-class passengers.
What’s next?
The Rebecca Vallance-designed Qantas uniforms are set to launch in 2027, coinciding with the airline’s largest-ever fleet renewal, including 20 new Airbus A321XLRs and the ambitious Project Sunrise.
