This Whitsundays Island Is Reopening With A Stunning $583M Makeover
Eco-Luxe, Ocean Views, and a Slice of History
By Cali Westmoreland | 13th November 2025Queensland, get ready: one of the Whitsundays’ most iconic islands is making the ultimate comeback.
Lindeman Island, a holiday playground since the roaring 1980s and a favourite of Club Med jetsetters, is getting a Kris Jenner-level glow-up – an epic transformation set to redefine island luxury. After more than a decade of closure, this beloved Whitsundays gem is poised to reemerge as one of Australia’s ultimate travel destinations.
La Vie Hotels & Resorts, one of Asia-Pacific’s leading independent hotel managers, is leading the redevelopment, bringing a new era of eco-luxe escapes to the Whitsundays. After acquiring the dormant island in 2023, the Well Smart Group is investing millions to transform the former Club Med site into a destination where tropical beauty meets modern sophistication.

What’s on the horizon
Phase one of the redevelopment is projected at $40–50 million, with a broader $583 million master plan on the horizon, featuring:
- A five-star resort with 200 rooms and nine luxe suites
- Multiple restaurants and bars, a swimming pool, spa, and gym
- Conference, wedding, and event spaces
- Eco-friendly infrastructure, including a solar farm and staff accommodation
- A brand-new 50-metre jetty
The first stage – including the jetty – is expected to be ready by 2026, with the full resort opening soon after. Perfect timing for your next holiday escape.

Luxe, future-forward, & environmentally smart
Lindeman Island isn’t just a resort – it’s a cornerstone of Australia’s tourism history. Developed for visitors in the 1920s, it was among the first islands in the region to offer accommodation, laying the foundation for Queensland’s global holiday reputation.
And for this team, sustainability isn’t a buzzword. The redevelopment includes native vegetation restoration, renewable energy initiatives, and eco-conscious infrastructure – delivering luxury that genuinely respects its surroundings.

Not just a holiday spot
The project isn’t just about pampering holidaymakers. It’s set to generate hundreds of construction and tourism jobs, as well as around 500 ongoing roles, boosting both the Mackay region and Queensland’s broader tourism economy.
So, whether you’re dreaming of your next glamorous sabbatical or just need a dose of wanderlust, Lindeman Island is officially on the map – and it’s bringing eco-luxe, resort island imagination with it. Think turquoise waters, sun-drenched suites, and a new standard for sustainable sophistication.
